Position Information

The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world‑class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non‑government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

Sir Eric Woodward School is a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) located in St Ives within the Pittwater Network of Schools. The school provides high‑quality teaching and learning for students K‑12 with high support needs, a K‑6 autism support class and a K‑12 distance education support unit for students statewide with a moderate or severe intellectual disability and additional complex needs. SEWS currently has an enrolment of 78 students. There are 46% of students who are from non‑English‑speaking backgrounds, and 9 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled at the school. About the Role

School Learning Officers (Student Health Support) provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. The main focus of the School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) is the performance of health support as required so that students can participate in and access educational programs.

Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance

- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education to undertake first aid, administration of medications and health care procedures training.

Please note: this role is 4 days per week.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.

- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.

- Effective communication skills.
