ALDI powers up its solar support for UNSW’s Sunswift Racing in World Solar Challenge 23/10/2023 ALDI Australia today takes the next step in its support for innovation and renewable energy, announcing its sponsorship of UNSW Sunswift Racing as it competes in the 2023 World Solar Challenge. Sunswift Racing, which has participated in the biannual event since 1997, is at the forefront of solar technology. The World Solar Challenge, from 22 to 29 October, attracts a global audience of 25 million. The team races a vehicle powered solely by the sun across 3,025 km of outback terrain from Darwin to Adelaide, representing the future of EV technology. ALDI Australia is the first and only supermarket powered by 100% renewable electricity and continues to advance its sustainability initiatives. Sunswift Racing has achieved significant successes over the years, and ALDI is proud to support the team in their efforts to represent Australia in the Cruiser Class category. "Sunswift Racing is thrilled to partner with ALDI Australia. We share the same values of sustainability, and what better way to team up than joining us on our journey from Darwin to Adelaide for the 2023 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge," says Professor Richard Hopkins, Team Principal UNSW Sunswift Racing. This support exemplifies ALDI Australia's commitment to renewable electricity, being the only Australian supermarket to operate entirely on 100% renewable energy, verified in the 2023 CERT Report. ALDI is expanding its solar panel network across 25 additional stores over the next 18 months, saving about 3,400 MWh annually. It is also trialling chiller doors in stores across Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia, reducing refrigeration energy use by approximately 30%. "Sustainability is central to ALDI’s values and operations. We are committed to Making a Good Difference for our planet," says Daniel Baker, ALDI Australia’s Sustainability Director. "Supporting UNSW Sunswift Racing aligns with our mission to promote innovation and renewable energy." You can learn more about ALDI’s renewable energy and sustainability initiatives on their website. ALDI Australia also publishes its Making Sustainability Affordable report, outlining progress towards its sustainability goals and in-store changes for customers. ALDI continues efforts to eliminate modern slavery and exploitation from its supply chains. On World Environment Day, The Finder Green Awards named ALDI Australia ‘Green Supermarket of the Year’ for its ongoing commitment to sustainability. The company is phasing out plastic shopping bags, offering paper bags as an eco-friendly alternative across all stores. TRIFECTA ALDI received awards for Best Sustainable Seafood Supermarket, Best Retailer, and Best Product at the 2023 MSC and ASC Sustainable Seafood Awards. In just one year, ALDI has removed nearly 2,000 tonnes of plastic packaging and reduced its fresh produce packaging by 10%. ALDI Australia has committed to sending zero waste to landfill by 2025, with a focus on food waste reduction. The goal is to achieve zero food waste to landfill by 2023 through expanded waste segregation, increased food donations, and closed-loop recycling initiatives. #J-18808-Ljbffr
