The School of Education offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including initial teacher education for early childhood, primary and secondary teachers, and postgraduate programmes in early childhood, leadership and management, curriculum, special and inclusive education and Religious Education.

About the role

The Senior Lecturer will foster relevant relationships within the education sector. The appointee will be expected to work co‑operatively and collaboratively with the education team and is expected to maintain and develop their scholarly and professional activities relevant to the School of Education and the teaching profession. The position will report to the National Head of School Education.

Level C (Senior Lecturer)

A level C academic staff member is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching and governance effort of a department, school, faculty or organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and professional activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct and lead research in contemporary issues related to Humanities and the Social Sciences and disseminate findings in high quality national and international and other relevant fora.

- Lead initial teacher education programmes in HSIE across campuses through programme and course coordination, external accreditation, the development of community relationships, and professional activities including Professional Experience and intercultural activities.

- Attend and lead at School and Faculty meetings as required, contribute to professional activities including committee membership, promote the work of the School (e.g., Open Days, Feast Days, Information Sessions, Graduation) and the good name of UNDA.

- Design course content and assessments that connect research and practice that addresses contemporary topics and issues in the Humanities and Social Sciences including HSIE.

- Record and disseminate asynchronous content materials as a “flipped” classroom, conduct tutorials, consult with students, collect, collate, mark, return and report on assessments.

- Supervise postgraduate research students in coursework and postgraduate research.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Essential

- Possession of a PhD in a discipline related to contemporary issues of the Humanities and Social Sciences including HSIE.

- Qualifications and experience in primary school teaching and leadership in the Humanities and Social Sciences including HSIE.

- Commitment to academic and research excellence and pastoral care for students in initial teacher education.

- Record of demonstrable research, professional, and sector teaching and leadership in school and community based work in the Humanities and Social Sciences including HSIE.

- Experience and/or leadership work with multicultural and/or multicultural settings including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

- Strong interpersonal skills and capacity for teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, students, teacher, and practitioners in the field.

- Demonstrated support of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.

Desirable

- Experience working with learners in regional, rural, and remote communities.

- A research and teaching focus on regional, rural, remote, and/or international professional experience and/or immersion programmes.

- Experience working in a multi-campus setting.

- Experience with educational policy, university teaching, research and sector partnerships relevant to the Humanities and Social Sciences.
