An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Advisor specialising in Workplace Health and Safety and Rail Safety Systems and Reporting. This pivotal role sits within a dedicated team responsible for delivering some of Queensland's most significant rail infrastructure projects, shaping the future of transport across the state. As a contractor on a full-time basis for an initial six months, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that safety, reliability, and efficiency are at the forefront of every project milestone.

What you'll do:

- Develop comprehensive policies, guidelines, procedures, programs, and initiatives designed to support robust safety processes in line with current legislation and industry standards.
- Implement the Safety Assurance activity program, monitoring outcomes for trends and identifying organisational learning opportunities.
- Maintain oversight of all safety assurance activities conducted by contracted entities and project personnel to ensure consistent application of best practices across multiple projects.
- Prepare detailed reports on safety assurance and management activities for presentation to senior leadership teams, providing clear insights into performance and areas for improvement.
- Lead and support key safety management activities including risk assessments, safety observations, incident investigations, and risk mitigation planning to foster a proactive safety culture.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams as well as external partners such as regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with relevant WHS acts, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines, and AS/ISO standards.
- Provide strategic advice on safety matters to senior management while ensuring all teams remain informed about industry developments and legislative changes affecting rail safety.
- Utilise advanced analytical skills to identify emerging risks or issues within safety systems and develop effective strategies for their management or mitigation.
- Support commitments to continuous improvement by participating in reviews of existing processes and recommending enhancements where necessary.

What you bring:

- A tertiary qualification in Health and Safety, Business or a related field is essential for this position.
- At least five years' experience working on large-scale rail or infrastructure construction projects is highly desirable.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant WHS acts, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines as well as AS/ISO standards is required.
- Internal Auditor qualifications are preferred as they demonstrate capability in evaluating compliance within complex operational environments.
- ICAM lead investigator certification would be advantageous for conducting thorough incident investigations when required.
- Excellent analytical skills are needed to monitor safety activities effectively; identify trends; assess risks; and develop proactive strategies for issue resolution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint—is necessary for managing documentation efficiently.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities are vital for planning initiatives; implementing new processes; managing stakeholder expectations; and providing strategic advice at senior levels.
- Demonstrated experience ensuring teams remain informed about industry changes—particularly those relating to legislation or best practice—is important.
