Senior Network Security Engineer
About the Company
Airservices Australia is a government‑owned organisation responsible for the safe and efficient management of 11% of the world’s airspace and provision of air traffic services at Australia’s busiest airports.
Our people are our greatest asset with a dynamic and diverse team operating from locations across the country – from bustling cities to regional and remote locations. This team keeps Australia’s aviation industry safe every day of the year, both in the air and on the ground.
We connect people with their world safely – linking family and friends, generating economic activity, creating jobs, and facilitating trade and tourism.
Airservices is committed to fostering a culture that is diverse, inclusive, and respectful. We encourage motivated individuals who love what they do, value a service first mindset, and embrace a challenge to explore a career with Airservices. In return, you will be a valued team member, be offered flexibility, and experience a meaningful career in an exciting, ever‑evolving aviation industry.
The Role & The Team
The Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) provides secure, reliable network solutions supporting Airservices’ business and operations. As part of a multi‑year program, NTP is modernising the network for the new Civil‑Military Air Traffic System (CMATS) by upgrading to an advanced IP network with terrestrial, microwave, and satellite technologies. This network supports Air Traffic Control, Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, and administrative functions. As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain network security infrastructure, delivering high‑quality solutions to complex problems while working closely with teams across Airservices.
What you’ll do
- Provide expert support and management for secure networks and telecommunications systems, while continuously improving processes to enhance cost‑effectiveness and meet user needs.
- Support system design, planning, and implementation while investigating and resolving faults and user‑reported issues in collaboration with business units.
- Prepare reports and proposals to recommend system improvements for industry best practice and provide technical support to the Network Security Services Lead as needed.
- Assist in creating and reviewing submissions, specifications, plans, contracts, and documentation for new system components and system upgrades.
- Ensure existing network systems meet CASA, ICAO, international and national standards, as well as internal technical, safety and security requirements.
- Be on call for at least one week per month, where you will answer calls outside of work hours and attend to faults and failures as required.
Qualifications
- A recognised Diploma in a relevant IT or Engineering field is required as a minimum qualification.
- 7+ years supporting complex network security with strong expertise in Network Security Gateway technologies and architecture (NGFW, BGP, Load Balancing, VPN, IPS/IDS).
- Understanding of IT security principles including Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
- Experienced in detecting and responding to security threats with analytic tools, alongside expertise in systems engineering and managing change control processes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally on technical and non‑technical topics, and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Must be an Australian citizen and have Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain it.
- Advanced certifications in Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5, and Infoblox are essential, but relevant industry experience may be accepted as an alternative.
What you will gain
- A permanent role with purpose—supporting those who keep Australians safe in the skies and on the ground.
- A collaborative, outcomes‑focused environment where your skills will have real impact.
- Take your career to the next level with hands‑on experience, continuous learning, and clear pathways for growth in a supportive, team‑focused environment.
Security Clearance
To be eligible to apply, you must be an Australian citizen as an Australian AGSVA security clearance is required for this role. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a security check as part of the recruitment process.
