About the role

The Head of Engineering’s role is to provide vision and leadership for the technological direction of the organisation and for developing and implementing information technology initiatives. This hands‑on technology leader opportunity directs the planning and implementation of enterprise IT applications/systems in support of business operations in order to deliver and onboard new clients and improve cost effectiveness, service quality and business continuity.

Responsibilities

- Lead the development and deployment of TypeScript and JavaScript applications utilising React and Node Frameworks

- Lead technical design and architecture discussions to create innovative solutions to complex problems.

- Drive the integration of AI technologies into the business processes, demonstrating a proactive approach to leveraging emerging technologies for business solutions.

- Mentor team members, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices in software development and DevOps/AWS.

- You can communicate effectively with other engineers and stakeholders as you contribute to the core goals of your team.

- Proven analysis skills with the ability to work with a client to understand requirements, define and present appropriate solution, and oversee delivery of a solution to the client. (Hands‑on approach)

- Act as the controller to enforce adherence to Agile methodologies and foster a high‑performing, collaborative team environment

- Project Manage the development of applications from inception to production

- Manage the support components of applications which are productionised

- Manage international teams and oversee operations across different countries

Criteria

- Strong knowledge with API creations and integrations

- Techstack – Typescript/React/Node frameworks & PostGreSQL DB.

- Lead technical design and architecture discussions to create innovative solutions to complex problems.

- Drive the integration of AI technologies into the business processes, demonstrating a proactive approach to leveraging emerging technologies for business solutions.

- Mentor team members, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices in software development and DevOps/IaS on AWS. Leading from the front with the setup of AWS Cloud – Lambda and containerisation (Kubernetes).

- Experience in minimising cyber risks within development and DevOps practices

- Desirable to have dealings with integrating to call centre software/platforms, payment gateways and SMS providers.

- Dealings with file and transmission encryption

- Exposure to managing the compliance processes that come with operating in a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) environment

- Proven analysis skills with the ability to work with a client to understand requirements, define and present appropriate solution, and oversee delivery of a solution to the client.

- Manage international teams and oversee operations across different countries.

- Ability to project manage a small number of application development projects in parallel and keep stakeholders frequently updated

- Experience with managing operations for customer facing applications

- Past dealings with the following environments:

- experience working in small lean teams with non-technical stakeholders

- experience working in a startup/scale up environment
