The Opportunity

As the Waste and Cleaning Lead at the City of Perth, you will oversee and coordinate the functions of our 24/7 Waste and Cleaning operational teams under broad direction. This leadership role involves working both indoors and outdoors across the City, providing guidance to operational staff on waste and cleaning best practice, and managing the development, implementation and scheduling of work programs. These programs span a wide range of services, including residential and commercial waste collection, street sweeping and cleaning. You will also work collaboratively with waste project staff to support the effective design, delivery and evaluation of strategic initiatives that enhance the City’s waste and cleaning operations.

Responsibilities

- Leading and supporting the Waste and Cleaning teams by setting clear expectations, fostering a positive culture, and ensuring safe and compliant work practices;

- Planning, prioritising and coordinating waste and street-cleaning programs to ensure workflows, KPIs and service outcomes are consistently met across 24/7 operations;

- Overseeing contracts, budgets, plant and equipment, and driving continuous improvement through data-driven initiatives, innovation and best-value analysis; and

- Preparing and managing procurement documentation, performance reporting and operational indicators, while providing regular updates and strategic insights to the Alliance Manager.

About You

- Proven leadership and people‑management experience, with the ability to build, develop and motivate high‑performing teams;

- Strong operational and financial management capability, with experience optimising service delivery in complex environments;

- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 and Work Health & Safety requirements; and

- Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a commitment to delivering high levels of customer service.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:

- A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa);

- A current ‘C’ class Australian driver’s licence; and

- A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
