Edgar’s Mission is a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. Set on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside of Lancefield, the sanctuary is nestled in the tranquillity of the Macedon Ranges.

Edgar’s Mission rescues and provides sanctuary to farmed animals in need, currently providing lifelong love and care to over 450 rescued animals. Through advocacy and engaging with communities, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.

Primary Responsibilities

- Ensure animals have consistent access to clean, fresh water by cleaning and refilling water sources such as troughs, waterers and ponds
- Support animal feeding routines by maintaining clean, accessible feeding stations and assisting the Animal Care team through removal of old hay and cleaning of food bowls
- Promote animal comfort and hygiene by keeping living spaces dry and sanitary through regular removal of soiled bedding and flooring materials in shelters and bird houses
- Nurture animals’ individual needs by performing cleaning duties unique to each animal area
- Preserve the beauty and integrity of the sanctuary grounds with general yard and sanctuary maintenance tasks, such as raking, collecting debris and weeding
- Extend the lifespan and reliability of care equipment by cleaning and maintaining tools and supplies, ensuring they are safe, functional, and ready for use
- Safeguard animal health and wellbeing by reporting any physical or behavioural concerns of animals
- Foster a culture of compassion and trust by consistently treating sanctuary residents with patience, dignity and kindness

Regular - more than 6 months

Training

You will be provided with an on‑site group induction day, then paired with an experienced volunteer who will provide you with further hands‑on training on how to complete the assigned tasks and how to interact and with the animals on your first day as a regular volunteer. Online written and video training resources are made available for your review.

Time required

Any day of the week (Mon‑Sun), from 8:30am until 2:30pm, weekly or fortnightly.

Requirements

- Must be 18 years or over- Able to commit to 1 day (6 hours) per week or fortnight for a minimum of 6 months- Have own reliable transport to and from the sanctuary- Share a commitment to our mission of kindness and our vision of a compassionate and just world for all
