The Aircraft QC Inspector (AH-64 Technical Inspector) inspects the repair and modification of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. Is responsible for maintaining the quality control, Environmental and Safety programs at the field level in support of assigned aircraft and support equipment.
- Inspect, remove, install, repair, replace, modify, disassemble, reassemble and calibrate complex aircraft mechanical and electromechanical systems in accordance with maintenance manuals, test procedures and other military publications.
- Perform the receiving, in-process, final quality, flight safety inspections and functional operational tests during organizational, intermediate and depot level maintenance, modification and repair of military tactical aircraft systems or associated components.
- Approve or reject work accomplished by field team members to ensure compliance with customer specifications, standards and technical data.
- Review and approve locally developed procedures and solutions to complex repair situations.
- Perform analysis of defects and interprets quality control rejection and failure trends.
- Monitor safety, training, and certification requirements.
- Using checklists, perform daily work site Safety Inspections and Foreign Object Damage Inspections.
- Monitor tool control programs, inspects and maintains records to ensure that measuring and test equipment meets calibration requirements.
- Maintain Quality, Safety, Training and Certification Records.
- Coordinate with the Customer Quality Assurance Representative concerning quality matters, mandatory inspection points and final acceptance inspection of contract end items or services.
- Inspect forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
- Plans, conducts, and supervises aircraft technical inspections.
- Inspects and evaluates repairs and modifications to aircraft structures, structural components, and engines.
- Inspects and evaluates maintenance of aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.
- Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.
- Applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
- Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
- Ensures compliance with aircraft configuration control, oil analysis Program and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration.
- Provides lower-level technicians guidance in aircraft repair and technical inspection techniques and procedures according to directives, technical manuals, work standards and operational policies.
- Contributes input to development and implementation of quality control and ground safety programs to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Inspects and verifies proper completion and documentation of safety and flight discrepancies.
- Must be able to lead small groups independently and provide oversite updates to the program leadership.
- Perform other qualified duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Broad working knowledge of aircraft maintenance, inspection techniques, FAA regulations, and technical publications.
- Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements and how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
- Exceptional communication skills, leadership abilities, and personnel management skills are required.
- Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
- Able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Basic computer data entry skills required for use of maintenance and logistics databases.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Required five years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience.
- Required at least one year experience inspecting MDS aircraft assigned.
- Required Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant License (A&P). If no A&P, shall have a minimum of five years’ experience as an aircraft inspector on the Mission Design Series (MDS) airframe they will be inspecting.
- Required valid (current) FAA Inspection Authorization (IA). If no IA, shall have a minimum of five years’ experience as an aircraft inspector on the Mission Design Series (MDS) airframe they will be inspecting.
- Required Security Clearance appropriate to the level required for the work.
- Back shop TI shall have at least one year experience on components being inspected.
- Must have satisfactorily completed the 15-series career management field Advanced Leadership Course (formerly BNCOC), AMOC, or possess a Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant License (A&P)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must provide own Inspector Tools/Bag
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- U.S. Military technical school or specialized training course is desired for AH-64 training, certification of education is required.
- Mus be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be in possession of a U.S. Passport and be able to travel internationally with minimum 6 blank pages and 2 plus years validity on expiration date of passport at the time of hiring.
- Must be flexible to adjust to the Australian schedule.
Clearance Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a (Secret Clearance) US Government Clearance. US Citizenship is required to obtain s Secret Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Must be able to lift/push/pull parts and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- May be required to occasionally lift/push/pull objects up to 50 pounds.
- Most heavy lifting is accomplished using mechanical devices.
- Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work could be performed outside as well.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft or operating equipment.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
- Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
- Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
- Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
- Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
