Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is a not-for-profit leading animal welfare organisation providing best practice care, education, shelter, re-homing, and community veterinary services across the Geelong region.

GAWS was established in 1956 and take pride on delivering animal welfare and management services through the aide of generous support via the community. Due to ongoing growth, GAWS are seeking a casual Vet and Vet Nurse to join the team located at GAWS in Moolap.

About the Roles:

Casual Veterinarian

Reporting to the Head Vet, you will deliver medical consult and surgical services to both shelter and private client-owned animals. This role suits an adaptable vet who enjoys meaningful work and contributing to a positive clinic culture.

Responsibilities include:

- Perform consultations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries
- Ensure the health and wellbeing of all animals in your care
- Collaborate with nurses and support staff for effective workflow
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate client communication

Casual Veterinary Nurse

As part of the nursing team, you’ll support the vets in delivering excellent animal care while also helping maintain clinic operations.

Responsibilities include:

- Assist with patient handling, consultations, and procedures
- Surgical prep, anaesthetic monitoring, and post-op care
- Provide support across vet clinic coordination and shelter vet nurse care
- Maintain records and a clean, safe clinic environment

Both roles have availability for casual shifts with the potential for permanent part-time available, with remuneration in-line with the award and your qualifications, skills and experience.

About You

GAWS are looking for dedicated veterinary professionals who bring warmth, compassion, and a commitment to high standards of care.

For the Vet position:

- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent), registered in Victoria
- Surgical and clinical competency across GP and/or shelter work
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with empathy

For the Vet Nurse position:

- Relevant Veterinary Nursing qualification
- 2-3 years nursing experience in a clinic or shelter setting
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with empathy

You will have excellent organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and thrive within a supportive and passionate team.
