About the role
Laboratory Assistants play a critical role in the Microbiology Laboratory and in contributing towards patient care. We seek a highly motivated individual to join our passionate and engaged team. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Routine receipt and processing of specimens, including operation and maintenance of analysers
- Pre- and post-analytical specimen handling
- Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
- Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
- Assisting Scientists as required
- Learning processing requirements for different samples and tests
- Staying updated with processing procedures
- Responding to result, sample requirements, and general queries
- Identifying and resolving problems at the pre-analytical stage
About you
To be considered, you should have:
- Experience in specimen processing and data entry
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of procedure accuracy importance
- Willingness to follow departmental policies
- Previous laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology are desirable but not essential
- Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable
