About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a new opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our JORN program. Ideally this role will be based in Melbourne, Vic.
Working within the Antenna IPT team, your role as the Structural Engineer will see you ensure that the structure supporting high frequency (HF) antennas and radar antennas can safely and effectively house and operate the antenna elements.
You will design, analyse, and assess antenna and antenna support structures including guyed- and self-supporting structures (steel lattice), steel and concrete monopoles, and wireworks to confirm they meet engineering standards, withstand environmental loads like wind, Ice, Earthquake and foundations design for them, making sure antennas remain operational at during intended service life.
This role will see you:
- Design and configure antenna and antenna support structures such as steel lattice towers, monopoles, and wireworks for antennas and design their foundations
- Calculate loads, perform structural analyses and check limit state strength, rigidity, and stability, ensuring it can safely resist antenna loads and loads from environmental conditions
- Modal and FE analysis of assembly, components and parts
- Design of guy cable assemblies, attachments, fittings and insulators
- Identify potential risks related to site designs and preparing risk assessment reports to ensure the safety of the structure and its equipment
- Validate structural designs through field testing and performance evaluations to ensure they meet all requirements and standards
- Prepare detailed structural design reports, and other technical documents for construction purposes
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and regulations, such as AS/NZS 1170, ANSI/TIA-222 standards
- Work with Antenna IPT engineers to understand antenna requirements and ensure the entire system functions as a whole
- Design solutions for upgrading/ strengthening existing structures, to increase their capacity or extend their lifespan

About YOU
- Bachelor degree in civil, structural or mechanical engineering
- Proficiency in using software for structural modelling and analysis, such as SPACE GASS, STAAD (Bentley Systems), ANSYS etc
- Experienced to create drawings markups and working instructions for CAD drafters.
- In-depth understanding of relevant engineering standards and codes for tower and mast structures, such as ANSI/TIA-222, AS 3995, AS 1170.2
- Good understanding of various materials properties, guy cables (metallic and non-metallic), fittings, fixtures, insulators, welding, protective coating and selections
- A strong foundation in the principles of applied physics and mechanics for structural integrity
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain.
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
