Field Application Scientist, Life Sciences
Reports to: Supervisor, Field Application Scientists
Position Location: Perth, Western Australia
How you will make an impact
Support Thermo Fisher’s customers using Life Science instruments, including qPCR, CE Sequencing, Next Gen Sequencing, Microarray, Sample prep, and cellular analysis systems. Serve various applications such as clinical diagnostics, academic research, forensics, and biotechnology. Improve Thermo Fisher Scientific Life Science Group (LSG) business and reputation by becoming customers’ trusted technical advisor on LSG instruments and reagents.
What will you do
- Perform Life Sciences product demonstrations at customer or company sites.
- Prepare and present seminars to wide array of audiences.
- Deliver comprehensive technical training for customers and colleagues.
- Collaborate with Sales Representatives to develop technical selling strategies & accompany Sales Representatives on customer calls.
- Provide ongoing onsite or remote technical troubleshooting support.
- Takes ownership to address and/or advance customer issues and complaints.
- Drives business for the reagent, instrument, training and service teams.
- Works in teams to drive success of large projects.
- Plans and delivers user group meetings in house or in the field.
- Records and reports on customer facing activities.
- Actively participates in team meetings.
- May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
As a diligent resource for customers and colleagues, you will be at the forefront of resolving partner concerns and addressing customer issues and complaints. Additionally, you will drive the performance of the reagent, instrument, training, and service teams to achieve their goals.
How will you get here
- MSc as a minimum, even better if you have a PhD, and at least 3+ years of laboratory or related work experience.
- Clinical, diagnostics and/or regulated market preferred.
- Previous customer-facing role and/or providing technical and scientific presentations to a variety of audiences is strongly preferred.
- Strong qPCR experience (instrument, workflow and data analyses)
- Strong background in DNA sequencing applications
Working Conditions
Mostly works in the customer's laboratory and is based from home office or Thermo Fisher Scientific office.
Majority of work is conducted in the home location, though some travel is required to other states in Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific.
This position has not been approved for Relocation Assistance.

- Ability to travel within the territory to carry out primary responsibilities.
- Proficient in English (oral and written)
- Valid driving permit required.
