Mechanical Fitters Production

BAE is currently seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters at the Osborne Naval Shipyards. This is a permanent waged role starting from $44.53 to $50.21 per hour.

Role and Responsibilities

The Production Mechanical Fitter is responsible for activities related to the mechanical outfitting of naval vessels within the Osborne Naval Shipyard. This includes installation of mechanical components, power & propulsion systems, combat systems, machine shop/in situ machining, pressure testing, load out/lock out, and other tasks essential for the successful delivery of naval vessels. The role also involves upgrades and sustainment work on ships in service.

You will carry out production activities within blocks (ship sections), ships, workshops, and potentially offsite facilities.

Core Activities

- Execute mechanical tasks within production to meet manufacturing plans
- Perform tasks on-board vessels and in workshop environments
- Complete job cards and document progress accurately
- Interpret and utilize technical drawings
- Follow quality and technical directions as per work scopes and instructions
- Maintain equipment and work areas safely and organized
- Adhere to safety policies, including Take 5, SOPs, and risk assessments
- Work collaboratively within teams and independently
- Supervise and mentor apprentices as appropriate
- Coordinate with other trades and functions to ensure program delivery
- Undertake relevant training as required

Qualifications and Experience

- Trade certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting)
- Experience as a mechanical tradesperson
- Eligibility for Australian Defence Security Clearance
- NSSIC Clearance (Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Identification Card)
- Knowledge of ITAR Regulations
