Job Description

The broad duties are to act as ambassador for the National Trust at Strawberry Hill at Barmup, support the volunteers in welcoming visitors, tours, Visitor Hub/Kiosk operation, and gardening, act as the first point of contact between Strawberry Hill and the National Trust, to ensure the place is secure and well maintained. Strawberry Hill has a large group of highly engaged volunteers who assist the National Trust in a range of activities – it is essential the caretaker supports the volunteers and acts as the key liaison, through the Visitor Experience Officer, between the National Trust and volunteers.

Key tasks

- Act as an ambassador for the National Trust

- Work with the volunteers to ensure there is a positive, welcoming visitor experience

- Ensure the place is open at the advertised hours and for other approved activities

- Ensure the buildings and grounds are maintained to a good standard and that basic property and grounds cleaning and maintenance is done

- Maintain security of the property and buildings

- Ensure the place is safe for volunteers and visitors alike and report any WHS issues

- Liaise regularly with the National Trust, provide reports as required, and monitor and report on issues as they arise

- Working closely with the National Trust team and the Visitor Experience Officer, assist with the recruitment, retention, training and recognition of volunteers

- Act as the first point of contact for community engagement programs

- Working closely with the Visitor Experience Officer, oversee the operation of the food and beverage service and report on operational matters and financials as required

- Working closely with the Visitor Experience Officer and the National Trust asset management team, liaise with tradespeople to oversee maintenance and repairs

- Working with the National Trust Garden Maintenance Officer and the Visitor Experience Officer, supervise the garden planting and maintenance program

- Assist with the scheduling of rosters for volunteers to welcome visitors, take tours, provide food and beverage service in the Visitor Hub/Kiosk, and assist in the garden

Selection criteria

Essential:

1. Sound working knowledge of building and grounds essential cleaning and maintenance services;

2. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised;

3. Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers;

4. Demonstrated administration, financial and data reporting experience;

5. Demonstrated computer literacy, including the use of MS suite of software and Outlook in particular;

6. Effective communication skills;

7. C Class Driver's Licence;

8. National Police Clearance.

Desirable:

1. Previous experience in customer service, tourism or heritage environment.

Further information

Following an initial twelve month fixed-term contract, with a six month probationary period, subject to satisfactory performance and financial viability, a longer term extension may be offered.

The role is at Level 2.1 (Government Services (Miscellaneous) General Agreement (currently $975.84 per week).
