The Speech Therapist practices as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and delivers service to adults, children and families.
The Speech Therapist is responsible for providing high-quality speech pathology services to the community within a community health framework. This role involves the assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based intervention for a diverse range of communication and swallowing disorders. The Speech Therapist works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the holistic development and well‑being of clients. The position is dedicated to promoting inclusive and accessible healthcare by delivering services in a culturally sensitive and client/patient‑centered manner. The position will work across acute services, residential aged care and community health.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, voice, fluency, and feeding/swallowing disorders in a paediatric population
- Interpret assessment results to formulate a differential diagnosis and develop individualized intervention plan.
- As a qualified Speech Pathologist, you will apply advanced clinical expertise to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for complex and high‑risk pediatric caseloads. This includes expert management of a diverse range of speech, language, voice, fluency, and feeding/swallowing disorders
Therapy and Intervention
- Design and implement evidence‑based therapeutic interventions tailored to the specific needs of each client
- Provide direct therapy, carer training, and group‑based interventions to support communication development
- You will design and lead the implementation of strategic, evidence‑based therapeutic interventions, ensuring optimal functional outcomes for clients / patients / residents
Leadership and Interprofessional Collaboration
- You will provide leadership and expert consultation both internally and externally, fostering a culture of best practice
- You will establish and maintain effective networks with professional and special interest groups to share evidence‑based information and contribute to the advancement of the profession
- You will also lead collaboration with families, caregivers, other staff and educators to develop and achieve meaningful, functional goals, where applicable
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Current and full professional registration with the relevant national professional body (e.g., Speech Pathology Australia, ASHA).
- Demonstrated experience in assessing and treating a pediatric caseload, including a range of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Strong understanding of child development, family‑centered practice, and evidence‑based intervention models
