Our QLD Government client is currently seeking a Principal Data Analyst to provide strategic, high-level advice on the organisation's operations by performing mathematical modelling and statistical analysis based on complex data extractions.

In this role you will ensure that strategic decision-making and planning is informed by accurate, in-depth data analysis, and carries significant consequences relevant to long-term outcomes for the organisation.

This is an opportunity to join an essential business unit that is currently undertaking signification transformational change and project delivery. This business unit has been established to enhance project and program management capabilities, support the successful execution of projects within the unit's remit, and align associated project efforts with strategic goals.

What you will do:

- Develop, implement and co-ordinate sourcing of relevant datasets and mechanisms to collate and analyse (complex and comprehensive) data that forms various reports for modelling or options for strategic infrastructure or asset requirements.
- Generate new datasets by establishing quantitative data collection methods and liaise with project team, wider stakeholders or internal experts to test validity and output relevance to artefact formation.
- Conduct in depth research of organisation data for relevance, context and or inclusion on future-facing strategic options and benefits.
- Provide strategic analysis and evaluation of the alignment to current trends in performance compared to future forecasts to generate informed options and recommendations.
- Demonstrate your ability to effectively problem-solve, negotiate, and motivate others to co-operate to resolve data / work priority conflicts to ensure data is received in time for thorough interpretation and contextually accurate analysis.
- Collaborate and sustain productive relationships with key stakeholders to ensure channels for information and data sharing / sourcing are maintained with the upmost scrutiny, integrity and trust.
- Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior management, to source, talk to or represent data that will support decision making options for inclusion in documentation and reports created for the business unit.
- Be a subject matter leader and expert within the PMO responsible for data analysis and interrogate existing data systems to ensure data relevance or impact for artefacts and reports.
- Ensure data sourcing, validation and analysis are maintained to the highest standards of compliance with Government, Legislative and/or Audit requirements and contemporary best practice.
- Maintain own level of knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures relevant to identified corporate business functions in the context of the correctional system, in addition to emerging issues and trends impacting corrective services as this relates to the artefact formation.

What you'll bring to the role:

- Demonstrated experience in mathematical modelling, statistical analysis, and ability to navigate and utilise complex corporate data information systems using Microsoft SQL Server Studio and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing trends associated within correctional environments
- Demonstrated experience and capability in completing project and program data analysis across multiple complex projects
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain comprehensive and detailed knowledge of Government and the organisation's strategic directions, relevant legislative and statutory requirements, policies and procedures, and correctional environments.
- High level written and interpersonal communication skills, particularly the ability to prepare complex and sensitive reports, briefings, policy papers and submissions.
- Experience in, or an understanding of, the criminal justice environment or similar human service/regulatory contexts.
- Knowledge of contemporary business processes and systems that effectively support continuous improvement.
- Formal qualifications in statistics, mathematics or data science (or a related discipline) would be highly regarded.
