About the Opportunity

Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) is looking for a full-time Health Justice Lawyer based in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, NT.

This role is part of our Health Justice Partnership and reports to the Senior Management Team. It focuses on delivering legal services and education within healthcare settings, addressing family violence and family law matters for clients referred through hospitals and health providers.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Providing high-quality legal advice and representation on domestic and family violence, family law, and child protection
- Responding to on-call requests for legal advice within the Health Justice Partnership
- Delivering outreach legal services and conducting community legal education
- Representing clients in court and tribunal settings
- Collaborating with clinicians and health professionals on legal education and mandatory reporting
- Creating legal content for education programs and online platforms
- Supporting CAWLS’ partnerships and strengthening referral pathways between health and legal services
- Contributing to law reform, reporting, and organisational compliance

About You

To qualify, you will need to be eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory. Post-admission experience in areas such as family and domestic violence is highly desirable.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

- Experience as a legal educator or facilitator with excellent public speaking skills
- Previous work in Community Legal Centres and/or Health Justice Partnership settings
- Understanding of domestic and family violence dynamics in regional and remote areas
- Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and/or First Nations backgrounds
- Familiarity with the CLASS database

As our ideal candidate, you will possess strong communication and time management skills, cultural awareness, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice. You’ll be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, high-impact team.

Please note: This is a female-identified position under Sections 30 and 34 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. You must also hold (or be eligible to obtain) a current NT Driver’s Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check.
