This is a full-time salaried position, working Monday to Friday, leading a dedicated and collaborative team in a well established laboratory environment.### **About the Role**As the Laboratory Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the **Analytical Laboratory**, ensuring the team delivers high-quality results, meets turnaround time targets, and maintains excellence in client service, safety, and productivity.### **Day to Day*** Supervise and lead a team of laboratory staff to achieve operational goals* Allocate tasks and manage priorities in consultation with the Operations Manager* Contribute to the development, review, and continual improvement of quality systems and procedures* Minimise chemical and consumable usage, and proactively reduce equipment downtime* Support training, mentoring, and professional development of laboratory personnel* Oversee and/or perform routine calibration of analytical equipment* Ensure timely processing of samples without compromising on data accuracy or quality* Review, verify, and authorise analytical results before release* Ensure strict compliance with Quality Work Instructions* Provide recommendations to the Operations Manager regarding process improvements, equipment upgrades, new technologies, and staffing needs* Maintain a safe, clean, and organised laboratory environment* Promote a strong work ethic and positive team culture### **Skills, Experience & Qualifications*** Tertiary qualification in Science or relevant industry experience in a coal testing laboratory* Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in coal sample preparation, with team coordination and supervisory responsibilities* Experience with laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance is highly desirable* Proven technical knowledge relevant to analytical laboratory practices* Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a team-focused mindset* Excellent written and verbal communication skills* Strong customer service orientation and a proactive, solutions-based approach* Highly organized with strong planning, time management, and problem-solving abilities* High attention to detail and a commitment to quality standards* Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer systems**Working at ALS**The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.Our values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.At ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
