Chief Operating Officer – Virtual Power Plant

Australia's largest Virtual Power Plant operator is looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer to ensure that the functionality of the business drives extensive and sustainable growth, as well as securing the resources and operational tools necessary to grow and prosper.

The COO will lead a high-performing team consisting of Managers, Engineers, Service Delivery Managers, Electricians, Installers and Project Managers. The role requires emotional intelligence, situational awareness, and the ability to perform root cause analysis to solve problems and enable the business plan to be delivered.

As a member of the C-Suite, the COO will also contribute across all areas of the business as part of the Leadership Team.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop strategic & operational plans/roadmap for the business and its overall growth.
2. Build out and lead a high-performing Operations, Installation (in-house and contractors), and Service team. Liaise with multiple groups to deliver exceptional installation management, client satisfaction, and employee engagement, with the ability to drive numerous and diverse resources.
3. Develop, implement, and maintain best practice health and safety and operational policies to maintain high KPIs for safety and quality. Effectively manage operational risks.
4. Enable business growth through developing new products and geographical expansion. Drive innovative revenue-generating projects.
5. Ensure effective and efficient management of the supply chain and operational costs.
6. Drive innovation and continual improvement, reporting against metrics.
7. Support the development of Fleet Management capabilities with the CTO.
8. Manage the Member Services team to resolve customer-specific faults successfully.
9. Effectively manage the end-to-end Hardware stack once considered BAU.
10. Build a positive, proactive, and accountable culture underpinned by safety, teamwork, and a customer-centric ethos.

Requirements:

1. Degree level education in electrical engineering or similar; a master's degree such as an MBA is preferred.
2. Demonstrable experience in operations, engineering, infrastructure, or project delivery, ideally within renewable energy, energy retail, or clean tech sectors.
3. Experience in deploying residential or commercial solar and BESS assets, with knowledge of Australian standards (AS4777, AS5033, AS5139) is highly regarded.
4. Ability to build and manage relationships and strategic partnerships, influencing and driving outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
5. A leadership style characterized by empowerment and emotional intelligence, with a proven ability to scale systems and teams, and a track record of delivering commercial outcomes in high-growth environments.
6. Expert problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and ability to resolve complex issues, including root cause analysis, across multiple technology groups.
7. Proven experience in data analysis, performance/operations metrics, financial management, reporting, budgeting, and cost control.
8. Experience in project development and management.
9. Excellent communication and presentation skills suitable for engaging with C-level executives and Boards.
10. Ability to communicate and drive outcomes in a balanced manner.
11. Experience in operational and process improvements to develop teams to operational maturity.
12. Willingness and ability to travel interstate as required.
13. Australian citizen or permanent resident.
