Overview
This APS regulator is on a journey to uplift data maturity and embed evidence at the core of regulatory decisions. With strong funding and executive backing, the agency is investing in modern data platforms to enable advanced analytics and predictive insights that will shape the future of the sector. You’ll be joining the data team responsible for analytics, reporting, and risk insight. The data and insights this team produces informs compliance and regulatory confidence. The team is geographically dispersed but growing quickly to deliver the agency’s top priority: lifting data maturity and capability.
The Opportunity
There are multiple positions available (one APS5, and one APS6), that will see you influencing how reporting, analysis, and insights are built and used over the next few years. The team has an inclusive & supportive team culture including regular (virtual) team bonding sessions, pro-active check in, bubbly EL1 (who is also hands on with the data) mean that everyone feels included regardless of their location. You’ll also have the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.
The Role
At the APS5 level you will contribute to the team’s reporting and analytics capability through the following responsibilities:
- Own and improve the monthly reporting process, ensuring accuracy and reliability
- Respond to ad hoc data requests, e.g. “How many complaints were received in X period?” or “How many providers deliver x service?”
- Maintain and improve data products, resolving bugs and optimising reporting workflows
- Keep reporting ‘lights on’ while contributing to process improvements and longer-term projects
For the APS6 role you will:
- Tackle more complex, discovery-style data requests, exploring compliance and audit datasets
- Identify linkages across multiple data sources to draw conclusions and test scenarios (“If we make this change, what will be the impact?”)
- Transform and analyse data to uncover insights that inform regulatory decisions
- Understand the business problem and come up with the solution not just report a number
- Communicate insights clearly, telling the story with data and influencing stakeholders
The Ideal Person
You bring strong technical skills and a curiosity to dig into data, ask the right questions, and improve processes.
Specifically:
- Proficiency in SQL (joins, queries, optimisation, integration across sources)
- Experience building and maintaining Power BI datasets and flows
- Strong analytical mindset, able to link datasets and uncover meaningful insights
- Confidence engaging business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into effective solutions
Due to the nature of the work Australian Citizenship and existing Baseline clearance is mandatory.
Salary / Rate
- APS5: $85k - $92k + 15.4% Super
- APS6: $97k + $105k 15.4% Super
- These roles are being offered as initial 12-month non-ongoing positions
- s26 transfer options including the ability to A/g will be considered
