Job Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora,你好, hallo, vítejte
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Leading mobile engineers in building effective, efficient components that strengthen Canva’s mobile platform support.
- Developing a holistic understanding of existing mobile infrastructure, identifying opportunities, and delivering initiatives that significantly improve the mobile development experience.
- Driving cross-platform alignment by leveraging technical solutions that connect mobile and frontend, and establishing strong collaboration with frontend teams to enable seamless adoption of new React Native implementations.
- Shaping strategy through technical and product discussions, creating and executing plans that address Canva’s most complex mobile challenges.
- Defining, improving, and codifying best practices and methodologies that set the standard for mobile engineering excellence at Canva.
- Championing knowledge sharing across mobile teams, fostering a culture of learning, and supporting engineers at all levels in their growth.
You're probably a match if
- Demonstrate deep expertise in mobile engineering, with a strong track record of building and evolving robust, performant, and scalable mobile solutions on iOS and/or Android.
- Are an expert across multiple tech stacks, spanning native and hybrid development such as Swift, Kotlin, React Native, and Flutter.
- Exhibit a strategic mindset, defining and driving foundational principles, systems, and tools that enable consistent, high-quality mobile experiences across diverse teams.
- Show a genuine passion for platform stewardship, with experience in platform or enablement considered a strong plus.
- Excel at cross-team collaboration, providing authoritative guidance and mentorship to unblock teams and elevate mobile standards company-wide.
- Communicate clearly and influence at all levels, confidently representing the Mobile Platform in technical forums and ensuring mobile considerations are embedded in Canva’s broader strategy.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within your team and across the wider specialty.
About the team
The Mobile Platform at Canva plays a foundational and enabling role in ensuring that Canva delivers a consistent, high-quality, and delightful experience for users on mobile devices. Its responsibilities span technical leadership, platform stewardship, and cross-team enablement.
The mission of the Mobile Platform team is to empower all Canvanauts to build powerful, easy-to-use, and device-tailored experiences for billions of users. This includes building delightful experiences for smaller resolutions and ensuring that Canva’s native apps are robust, performant, and support native development at scale.
About the Role
You’ll leverage technical leadership, lead by examples for a group of highly experienced iOS, Android and Frontend engineers. You will re‑imagine the way we do mobile development everyday with partner feature teams. This is an exciting opportunity for an very experienced engineer who knows how to communicate well internally and externally and rally mobile first thinking across Canva.
We are looking for an amazing problem solver with industry‑leading expertise in mobile development across iOS and Android. Ideally you have been involved with mobile architecture development with scalability, performance and quality in mind, for a large organisation serving millions of users everyday.
What's in it for you?
Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.
