This post provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated pharmacist with a clinical pharmacy background to join the Womens and Childrens Pharmacy Team. The post holder will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, clinical service to paediatric, maternity and gynaecology wards.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across Women's Health and Child Health which includes a broad range of specialities including paediatric cystic fibrosis, paediatric hepatology, paediatric endocrinology, maternity and gynaecology. The pharmacists within Women's and Children's provide extensive pharmaceutical care and medicines management services to patients within these areas to ensure a seamless integrated model of care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in the following services:

· Participate in the multidisciplinary team delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care to patients, including those receiving homecare.

· Provide interface and discharge liaison, and support to the wards & units within the Care Group.

· Consistently lead on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the many sub-specialties within the Care Group and ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input.

· Act as a clinical role model, and supervise rotational staff at ward level.

· Provide supervision, education and training to pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

· Promote the safe drug use within the specialty.

· Develop, implement and auditlocal guidelines.

· Audit usage of medicines in the Care Group with the aim of promoting cost effective prescribing

· Assist in the financial reporting to the Care Group and drug budget management.

· Ensure seamless pharmaceutical care on discharge, liaising with other pharmacists and healthcare professionals (primary and secondary) taking over care of the patient.

· Work with the Principal Pharmacist to extend the boundaries of professional practice within the Care Group.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

- Registered Pharmacist (Significant competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)

- Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification/experience

- Working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy

- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification / experience

- Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete

- Member of the RPS faculty

Knowledge and Experience

- Specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to area of practice

- Appropriate post registration experience in hospital Pharmacy or equivalent area of practice with assessed competencies

- Experience of supervising others

- Experience of practice research or auditExperience of protocol/guideline development

- Experience of delivering training and education at postgraduate level

- Experience of multi-disciplinary team working

- Previous relevant specialist clinical experience

- Demonstration of advanced practice using evidence mapped to the RPS Advanced Practice Framework

Skills and Competancies

- Be able to impart knowledge on medicines use to other healthcare professionals

- Be able to influence senior medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management

- Be able to implement and manage change

- Track record of successful team working
