Position Title: Laboratory Technician

Position Details

Permanent full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Level 2 Laboratory Technician to join our Science Department. This role plays a key part in supporting the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff by ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory and providing guidance to Level 1 Laboratory Technicians.

The successful applicant will ideally display initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities. A high level of organisational and time‑management skills is ideally essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy school environment.

Duties

- Prepare chemicals, equipment and materials.
- Design and construct teaching aids.
- Collect and care for living organisms for study purposes.
- Maintain general housekeeping of chemicals, equipment (including repairs and maintenance).
- Ensure compliance with chemical, physical and biological laboratory safety and legislative requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Evidence of experience working within a science laboratory.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety and legislative requirements.
- Knowledge of science subjects relevant to secondary schools curriculum.
- Ability to design and construct experiments and equipment to support curriculum requirements.
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Organisational and time‑management skills with ability to work independently.
- Well‑developed keyboarding and computer skills, including databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

Eligibility

- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or hold a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before starting.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting.
