Associate/Junior Data Engineer (Java / Apache Spark) — Leading Banking client (consulting through FinXL)

FinXL is looking for a bright and ambitious Associate/Junior Data Engineer to build the real-time data platforms that drive sales and trading for a leading bank.

FinXL is also able to take over existing visas and provide sponsorship for consultants.

Responsibilities

- Develop custom data parsers and tools for structured data using ANTLR.

- Implement and optimize large-scale data pipelines using Apache Spark.

- Collaborate with diverse teams including Quant, Trading, and Risk on technical delivery.

- Work within an Agile environment featuring 4-week sprints, CI/CD, and peer-reviewed code.

- Participate in third-tier production support to maintain system uptime and reliability.

- Help solve complex data challenges in finance, focusing on OTC derivatives.

- Contribute to building Java-based microservices and custom data tooling.

Qualifications

- Strong Java programming skills.

- A genuine interest in ANTLR, compiler construction, or domain-specific languages.

- Hands-on exposure to Apache Spark for batch or streaming.

- A solid understanding of data engineering concepts (serialization, messaging, schema design).

- Enthusiasm for OTC derivatives and financial data systems.

- A fast learner with meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

- Comfortable with Agile practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git).
