Job Overview

GPI Australia is currently experiencing significant growth in our Australian made flowmeter products, and we see significant opportunities for greater growth in our future. We have found the need for some additional engineering resource to speed up the execution of our plans. We have the need for a full time Engineering Technician with a minimum of 4 years’ experience to join our team and play a critical support role for our existing team of experienced engineers. This person will leverage their existing professional experience in CAD modelling, drafting, prototyping, metrology, and building/commissioning production equipment to ensure our engineering team can execute on the opportunities in front of us.

The position is based in Caringbah, NSW. The offered remuneration $75,000 - $90,000pa + super depends on your experience and skills.

Benefits, Tasks & Responsibilities

- Assist in the design of new products under the direction/supervision of Mechanical Engineers

- Work from specifications and conceptual designs provided by Senior Engineers to develop CAD models of parts and assemblies for the new product.

- Source components for prototype designs

- Build and test prototypes, analyse test data for presentation to senior engineers.

- Conduct pre-production batch assembly of new products, providing feedback to senior engineers and the manufacturing department.

- Produce product documentation for new and existing products, incl. manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and assembly drawings.

- Assist in the design of machine tool work-holding under the direction/supervision of Mechanical Engineers.

- Work from specifications or conceptual designs provided by Senior Engineers to develop CAD models of work-holding for machine tools.

- Produce drawings and source components.

- Build, install, and commission new machine tool work-holding.

- Troubleshoot and make improvements to machine tool work-holding.

- Assist in the design of assembly or testing equipment under the direction/supervision of Mechanical Engineers.

- Work from specifications or conceptual designs provided by Senior Engineers to develop CAD models of a part or sub-system of a piece of equipment/plant.

- Referring to equipment designs provided by Senior Engineers, source required components for construction of the equipment.

- Build, install, and commission new production equipment.

- Troubleshoot new equipment and provide feedback/recommendations.

- Conduct laboratory testing of new or existing designs and analyse data to identify opportunities for improvements.

- Conduct metrology inspections in the QA laboratory.

- Setup and operate coordinate measuring machine.

- Supervise internal tradespeople in the operation of metrology equipment in the QA laboratory.

- Inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production equipment.

- Inspect and/or troubleshoot production equipment/plant.

- Supervise repairs and maintenance of machines and equipment by internal or external tradespeople.

- CAD modelling and drafting of plans in Autodesk Inventor.

- Conducting tests or analysis as directed by Senior Engineers.

- Conducting QA laboratory tests as directed by Senior Engineers.

- Plan, produce, source, and assemble mechanical and electronic parts for product and equipment.

- Operate the company’s plastic printer.

- Recommending cost effective changes/improvements to designs of products or equipment.

- Ensuring finished work is in conformance with specifications and the requirements of relevant Australian and International Standards.

Qualifications & Experience

- Minimum a diploma of engineering or equivalent qualification.

- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or design environment.

- Experience with manufacturing precision products/components will be valuable; such as flowmeters, pressure/temperature instruments, positive displacement pumps.

- Proven hands‑on experience in building/testing of prototypes or custom machinery is essential, with skills in hand tools, power tools, and simple machine tools.

- Experience with interpretation of various technical drawings including mechanical, electrical, and general arrangement drawings.

- Experience 3D modelling of mechanical parts such as castings and injection mouldings in Autodesk Inventor.

- Demonstrated experience with plastic printers, manual mill/lathe will be valuable.

- Diligent and organised.

- Resourceful, self‑managing and highly motivated.

- Have a high standard of digital literacy including 3D CAD and Microsoft Excel.

- Able to follow a methodical process in analysing problems and arriving at well‑considered logical conclusions.

- Detail oriented; someone who likes to have their work done promptly and to a high standard.
