WHO ARE WE?

We’re Sessions, on a mission to bring non‑stop originality to every kitchen.

Founded in 2020, Sessions launched and scaled 10 unique food brands, partnered with over 300 licensee kitchens, and delivered more than 3 million orders. We’re now expanding rapidly into franchising, using our own technology to grow our portfolio across high streets throughout the UK.

Our line‑up includes cult favourites like SoBe Burger and Little Bao Boy, alongside collaborations with globally recognised names—such as Netflix‑associated experiences like the Squid Game Korean Chicken menu—and internationally acclaimed concepts like Ivan Ramen (featured on Chef’s Table).

Led by former executives from Deliveroo, BrewDog and Soho House, Sessions is backed by industry‑leading investors Imbiba and Guinness Ventures.

Who’s Hungry?

OUR CULTURE

- We’re customer‑obsessed and adapt as needed to meet their needs.

- We aim to not only discover but create on‑trend brands and are excited by the work required to become a tastemaker brand.

- We keep playfulness at the centre of our culture so that we can deliver on the very serious business of keeping food fun.

- We don’t make assumptions based on what has always been done and instead focus on what the data tells us should be done.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Data & Insights Engineer at Sessions, you will play a critical role within the Data & Analytics team, driving both the foundational data infrastructure and the direct delivery of actionable insights. This role truly sits at the intersection of engineering and insight: you will build, maintain and optimise our data infrastructure while enabling teams across the business to access, understand and act on the data that drives our strategic decisions.

Your responsibilities will be to ensure reliable and efficient data flow from diverse sources, including external web data, into our central data warehouse. You will also act as a proactive insights analyst, directly supporting teams day‑to‑day by turning raw, complex data into usable analysis, responding to ad‑hoc requests, proactively spotting critical trends, and empowering teams to make faster, better decisions based on precise data intelligence.

This position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer proficient in Python for data extraction and pipeline development, with strong expertise in SQL and Dataform for robust data transformation and orchestration. We’re looking for someone equally comfortable writing scalable data pipelines and skilled at answering “what happened and why?” questions from stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform and load data from various internal and external sources into our BigQuery data warehouse.

- Lead efforts in external data sourcing, including designing and implementing solutions using Python.

- Pipeline orchestration with Mage: design, deploy and maintain production‑grade pipelines in Mage, handling scheduling, dependencies and modular pipeline design.

- Data modelling and transformation in Dataform: develop, test and deploy scalable SQL models, manage schema evolution and apply best practices for modular, maintainable code.

- Cloud Run deployment and management: containerise jobs, deploy scalable services and troubleshoot runtime issues in Cloud Run.

- General GCP expertise including BigQuery, GCS, monitoring and alerting to ensure pipeline reliability.

- End‑to‑end debugging and incident response: resolve pipeline failures quickly, whether driven by upstream data issues, infrastructure limits or code errors.

- Develop, optimise and maintain complex data transformation scripts using Dataform and Python, ensuring data quality, consistency and performance.

- Collaborate closely with the Data and Tech team and other business units to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements.

- Lead and execute impactful data‑driven analysis, translating complex business questions into actionable insights for Product, Growth Marketing, Brand and Operations.

- Provide rapid, accurate responses to ad‑hoc data requests, supporting urgent analytical needs for diverse teams.

- Implement monitoring, alerting and logging for data pipelines to ensure integrity, reliability and timely delivery.

- Diagnose and resolve data‑related issues and perform root‑cause analysis of pipeline failures and discrepancies.

- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data architecture, governance best practices.

- Champion innovation by staying ahead with the latest industry trends and technologies in data engineering to enhance our data platform capabilities.

- Quickly resolve pipeline failures caused by upstream data issues, infrastructure limits or code errors.

REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related technical field.

- 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a Data Engineer, highly technical Data Analyst or similar role focused on building and maintaining data pipelines and data models, preferably in a tech‑focused environment.

- Advanced proficiency in Python for data manipulation, scripting and developing robust data extraction solutions.

- Proven experience with GCP and in particular Dataform for data transformation and Cloud Run to containerise jobs, including hands‑on experience developing, testing and deploying scalable SQL models; managing schema evolution; and applying best practices for modular, maintainable code.

- Expertise in SQL, with significant experience working with large datasets in cloud warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks or Snowflake.

- Experience with Mage or Airflow, essential.

- Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.

- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

- Enthusiastic and natural problem solver with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing data challenges.

- Enjoys working collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.

- Resilient and loyal.

- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.

- Fluent in English.

- Right to work in the UK.
