Overview
Why This Role Exists
When Australian businesses need reliable, instant, and secure voice communications, they turn to our client. With 30+ years of delivering tailor‑made two‑way radio systems and wireless IP networks, we design, install, and maintain mission‑critical solutions for customers from mining and manufacturing to hospitality, transport, education, and government, supported by offices in various States. As Field Services Manager, you'll lead a hands‑on team of Technicians and Engineers to deliver and support these systems end‑to‑end, from radio coverage testing and ACMA licensing support through to base‑station networks, on‑site deployments, and long‑term maintenance.
About This Company
- Custom systems, real results. We build indoor/outdoor wireless broadband and digital radio solutions, linking multi‑site operations and enabling features like GPS, encryption, and IP connectivity.
- Deep TETRA expertise. We installed Australia/'s first DAMM/Sepura TETRA system in 2006 and continue to design, install, train, and support TETRA infrastructure nationwide.
- Service that sticks. Our technical staff provides on‑call support, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and free coverage tests—backed by workshops fitted with the latest test equipment and vehicles for work even in remote locations.
- Trusted brands. We integrate solutions across Sepura, DAMM, Hytera, Motorola, Cambium, and more.
Projects You And Your Team Will Deliver
- Mine‑scale, multi‑node radio networks. Example: a 7‑tower, solar‑powered, off‑grid TETRA deployment using DAMM BS422 base stations, Cambium microwave links, and 330+ Sepura radios over 14 frequencies—complete with RoIP, dispatcher alerts, tunnel BDAs, and geo‑fenced prompts to automate fleet tasks.
- Large venue/event communications. Example: a rapid analog‑to‑digital migration (50+ IP67 handhelds) at Hunter Valley Gardens to support concerts and seasonal events, delivering long battery life, clear audio in noisy environments, and fast turnaround.
- Security and safety at public venues. Example: solutions combining handheld radios with beacon‑enabled location/safety workflows for a major museum environment.
Why You/'ll Love It There
You/'ll lead meaningful, visible work, from mine sites and major public venues to local councils and hospitals, supported by seasoned engineers, on‑call service, free trials/coverage testing, and the backing of Australia/'s premier radio communications provider.
What You'll Lead & Deliver (Day‑To‑Day)
- Service delivery leadership. Run a small, high‑performing, hands‑on service/engineering team: workforce planning, job allocation and scheduling, skills development, performance reviews, recruitment, and technical standards/compliance (including OH&S).
- Operational rhythm.
- Weekly: approve technician timesheets, review productivity and repair backlog, and host the service stand‑up to clear blockers and optimise the schedule.
- Daily: review forward work plans (48‑hour horizon), authorise overtime, coordinate after‑hours callouts.
Customer outcomes. Own customer liaison across service and installation works, confirm scope/schedule, manage approvals/POs, and ensure satisfaction at job completion; resolve billing queries and mediate quality/cost disputes when required. Commercial stewardship. Grow service labour revenue, quote small installations alongside engineering, shape/support agreements (SLAs/response times), and track the service budget. Process & compliance. Ensure accurate service dockets, stock movements, clean and audit‑ready vehicles/work areas, and current programming records; maintain strong supplier relationships. Sales integration. Partner with account managers and system engineers to scope/price delivery and hand over projects to support, keeping a tight feedback loop on field learnings.
The Engineering Work
- Coverage, design & licensing: conduct radio coverage tests, site surveys, frequency planning, and support ACMA licensing so customers get clear, interference‑free comms.
- Build & integrate: install and commission repeaters/base stations, microwave backhaul (e.g., Cambium), RoIP gateways, BDAs, dispatch consoles, and handheld/mobile fleets—programmed with GPS, lone‑worker/man‑down, and emergency alert features.
- Secure & resilient operations: configure encryption and private‑licensed channels; design for redundancy (master/slave nodes; overlapping coverage) and off‑grid, solar‑powered sites where needed.
- Lifecycle support: preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, firmware updates, and on‑site training to embed best‑practice use.
Tech & Tools You/ll Encounter
TETRA (DAMM/Sepura), digital two‑way radio platforms and base stations, licensed UHF/VHF, microwave links (Cambium PMP/PTP), RoIP, dispatch systems, encryption, GPS/location services, and push‑to‑talk over cellular (PoC) where appropriate.
What You/ll Bring
- Leadership of field service or delivery teams in RF/telecoms or adjacent infrastructure.
- Strong scheduling, triage, and stakeholder skills across simultaneous customer jobs.
- A pragmatic, safety‑first mindset and familiarity with regulated environments.
- Comfort collaborating with sales, suppliers, and customers to shape fit‑for‑purpose solutions (not one‑size‑fits‑all).
