About the role

Reporting into the Food Applications Manager, the Business Development Baker is responsible for creating innovative baked products while identifying new business opportunities, developing partnerships, and driving growth in the bakery sector.

The BDB will provide and manage a complete bakery service for the company, offering strategic direction aligned with current and emerging market conditions. This role involves supporting the future-proofing of core business operations by anticipating market trends and consumer habits.

They will act as a key advisor to the product design team, contributing to critical projects and business initiatives. Responsibilities also include conducting Cost-in-Use analyses, functional bench marking of bakery designs, and serving as the main liaison between Glenbervie operations and our commercial teams or customers.

Additionally, the role will involve managing or assisting in the delivery of agreed development projects and assignments.

The role requires expertise not only in baking but also market research, client engagement, and strategic planning.

The role can be based at either our Glenbervie site or our Midlands customer center in Coventry, the successful candidate will be required to work between both locations and have the ability to travel away from home inclusive of overnight stays during the working week as required.

Baking and Product Innovation:

- Develop new and unique baked goods that align with market trends and customer preferences.
- Maintain high-quality standards for all baked products, ensuring consistency and compliance with food safety regulations.
- Experiment with new recipes and techniques to create appealing product offerings.

Business Development:

- Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth, including new markets, distribution channels, and partnerships.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and partners to foster long-term growth.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to promote products and develop strategies for customer acquisition and retention.

Market Analysis and Strategy:

- Conduct market research to understand consumer behaviour, industry trends, and competitor strategies.
- Create and implement a comprehensive business development plan to drive sales and increase brand presence.

Sales and Customer Engagement:

- Act as a representative for the bakery in trade shows, community events, and business meetings.
- Manage client accounts and provide excellent customer service to strengthen client relationships.
- Create presentations and proposals for potential business partners and clients.

Experience & Qualifications:

- Experience in Baking:Proven experience as a baker, pastry chef, or in a similar culinary role.
- Business Acumen:Strong background in business development, sales, or marketing.
- Creativity and Innovation:Ability to develop new recipes and adapt to food trends.
- Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactions.
- Project Management:Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Problem-Solving:Ability to address challenges in product development, sales negotiations, and market competition effectively.
- Degree or certification inCulinary Arts,Baking and Pastry Arts, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience insalesorbusiness developmentwithin the food industry.
- Strong knowledge offood safety regulationsand quality standards.
