Full-Time Position | Based on the Banksia Peninsula, East Gippsland, Victoria

Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) invites passionate and skilled teachers to join our Education Outdoors team at MLC Banksia, our stunning 12-hectare coastal bushland property located on the shores of the Gippsland Lakes in East Gippsland, Victoria.

At MLC Banksia, we deliver dynamic, curriculum-based outdoor learning programs for students in Years 5–8, providing immersive experiences that connect the classroom to the natural world. Students participate in 4–6 day residential programs exploring the Gippsland Lakes, Mitchell River National Park, Buchan, and Snowy River environments.

Our team of dedicated teachers and support staff work collaboratively to design and deliver sequential outdoor education programs that complement the College’s curriculum and wellbeing frameworks. MLC Banksia teachers also contribute to the expedition component of the MLC Marshmead Program for Year 9 students.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum-linked outdoor learning experiences in collaboration with colleagues.

- Build strong, positive relationships with students to support growth and wellbeing.

- Use data to assess student progress and inform teaching strategies.

- Liaise with Kew-based staff and program mentors to ensure consistency across campuses.

- Coordinate year-level curriculum programs and contribute to operational or learning resource areas.

- Mentor Program Assistants and participate actively in the Banksia residential community.

- Uphold College policies and the MLC Child Safe Program requirements.

Essential Criteria

- Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.

- Experience teaching Primary and/or Secondary students.

- Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.

- Commitment to student wellbeing, sustainability, and environmental education.

- Outdoor Education qualification and experience leading programs in:

- Bushwalking, canoeing, rafting (Grade 2–3), small dinghy sailing, and caving.

- Current full driver’s licence.

- Ability to live and work within a small residential community.

- Completion of (or willingness to undertake) relevant safety training:

- Wilderness First Aid (LWFA)

- 4WD training

- Medium Rigid licence

- Power Boat Handling and Marine licence

- Workplace Fire & Emergency, Food Handling (Level 1), Bronze Medallion, Anaphylaxis training

Desirable Criteria

- Knowledge of the Gippsland Lakes, Mitchell River, Buchan, Snowy River, and Croajingolong National Park areas.

- Qualifications or experience in sailing instruction, sea kayaking, or bus driving.

- Understanding of the Duke of Edinburgh Award’s Adventurous Journey component.
