At Peninsula Vet Emergency & Referral Hospital, we’re looking for an experienced ECC Veterinarian to join our referral hospital team. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary specialist hospital that includes ECC, surgery, internal medicine, anaesthesia, and an attached GP clinic, meaning the cases you see in emergency are true emergencies.

As part of our referral hospital team, you’ll be at the heart of complex, high-acuity cases you won’t find in general practice. You’ll work closely with our highly skilled specialists and passionate nurses and ECC veterinarians in a progressive, supportive, and fun environment. We offer 24/7 emergency and referral services across ECC, surgery, internal medicine, and anaesthesia, in a truly multidisciplinary, collaborative environment where every nurse plays a vital role in patient outcomes. You’ll have opportunities to work with trauma patients, ventilator cases, critical anaesthetics, transfusions, chest drains, central lines, and more. Our nurses are recognised, including features on our Vet Wrap Podcast and speaking at CPD nights. When your shift is done, you’ll be minutes from beaches, wineries, and bushland trails on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, just an hour from Melbourne.

About the Role

You’ll be working across a structured 4-week rotating roster of days, evenings, overnights, and weekends, alongside:

- 2 ECC Specialists
- A residency-trained ECC Registrar
- An experienced ECC Vet Team Leader
- A diverse ECC team including vets with memberships, internship experience, and developing clinicians

Our caseload is uniquely diverse — from metro-style emergencies to rural presentations. On any given shift you might treat snake bites, blocked cats, blowfish ingestions, high-rise cats, GDVs, or pets kicked by horses. We are also recognised for our work with brachycephalic patients, and our collaborative culture ensures every discipline works together to provide the highest level of patient care.

About You

- 2+ years of emergency practice experience (preferred)
- Confidence in approaching emergency cases and performing emergency procedures and soft tissue surgery (or the motivation to develop these skills with our support)
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management skills
- A strong passion for ECC and commitment to ongoing learning
- An interest in teaching and mentoring as a University of Melbourne core rotation site; we support interns, residents, and the next generation of vets
