The University of Notre Dame Australia is a private Catholic University with over 1,000 permanent staff providing an exceptional educational experience to over 12,000 students across our Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses, as well as clinical schools in Victoria and New South Wales.

About the office

The University Library consists of six libraries networked across Australia. While the individual libraries are managed locally, they report nationally to the University Librarian and work collaboratively across campuses.

The Senior Library Technician is based at the Sydney campus and reports to the Senior Access Librarian. The role plays a key part in ensuring the delivery of high-quality access services, including loans, document delivery, acquisitions support, and first point-of-contact services, while also supervising Library Services Officers and casual staff.

About the role

You will coordinate daily library operations at the Sydney campus, ensuring that users receive excellent support and access to resources. Working with a national Access Services team, you will contribute to system workflows, resource sharing, and library documentation, and participate in the continuous improvement of processes and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

- Client Support: Provide frontline assistance to students and staff, resolving complex queries and delivering a positive library experience.
- Team Supervision: Provide day-to-day supervision, training, and support to library staff and casuals involved in service delivery.
- Coordination: Coordinate and participate in the delivery Access Services of lending, circulation, and document delivery services to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
- Collection Processing: Coordinate and participate in the acquisition, cataloguing, classification, and end-processing of print and digital resources, applying agreed standards and procedures.
- Promotion and Instruction: Support the delivery of research skills training and contribute to user guides and promotional materials.
- Data and Reporting: Monitor service usage and workflows and provide reports on key areas of responsibility.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Senior Access Librarian and colleagues across campuses to ensure service consistency and innovation.
- Compliance: Comply with University policies, procedures, and safety requirements, and undertake other duties as directed.

Qualifications, skills & experience

- Completion of a diploma and or relevant formal qualification with relevant work experience or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating service operations in a library or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of access services and library systems.
- High-level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to solve problems independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time and competing demands effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to support a respectful and inclusive team culture, supervise staff with fairness and consistency, and work effectively with individuals of diverse work styles and backgrounds.
- Commitment to excellent customer service and continuous service improvement.
- Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
