Field Service Engineer

Main purpose of job
1. To ensure new and aftermarket Howden products in the field are installed, operate and are maintained to Howden standards and client requirements.

Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

- Visit sites to undertake onsite balancing and/or laser alignment, identify the cause of the problem, rectify on site if possible or advise further action to be taken ensuring customer production losses are minimised.
- Servicing: Undertake servicing in terms of customer planned maintenance contracts, check equipment, carry out required maintenance and produce a report of work done in order to comply with the Service Level Agreement.
- Commissioning of New Installations: Supervision of new install product including HV compressors. Check the installation and alignment of equipment. Start machinery, check vibrations and temperatures and run the fan for a test period. Complete a Commissioning Report including checksheets and a Completion Certificate for contract closures. Ensure the machine is ready for full production service.
- Site/Project Management: Manage contract staff, liaise with client representative/s, budget management, maintain schedules including progress reports, OHSE management, quality control management, equipment management and accommodation management to ensure acceptable results for Howden and the Clients.
- Troubleshooting: Carry out detailed machinery analysis, interpret results and liaise with Howden engineering department on how to most efficiently resolve customer problems.
- Aftermarket Sales Support: Survey and Reporting; Site visits with design Engineers.
- Legal, Health and Safety: Take all reasonable care for own personal health and safety, as well as for that of everyone who may be affected by your action in your workplace. Liaise and co-operate with company management with regards to the current health and safety legislation and obligations within the location and area where you performing your duties.

Your Education Should Be…

- Qualified Mechanical Tradesperson
- Minimum 5 years post qualification experience of working with rotating assemblies in an industrial/mining/power station environment
- Competence in shaft alignment on rotating machinery
- Competence in HV Compressors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Experience with site project management
- Desirable skills, knowledge & behaviours
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Formal training in vibration analysis
- Sound knowledge in rotating machine and heat exchange equipment
- Formal training in OHSE practices
- Formal Training and/or experience in on-site project management

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

- Complexity and creativity: Dealing with customers when they are concerned about production downtime; Find solutions to complex machinery problems
- Judgement and decisions: Technical/mechanical solutions – choosing the solution – more than one way to deal with a problem; Safety-first decisions and when to refer a customer to the Manager if not satisfied
