City of Melbourne, Australia Amber Electric Full time

About Amber

Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy – where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. We believe the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries and EVs. Customers get direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and exported to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest.

We are backed by Australia’s leading VCs and impact-focused investors, and most recently by Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack and ETF Partners. We are growing rapidly and have thousands of customers who love what we are doing. Amber is at a critical moment in taking the business to real scale as we disrupt a huge market for the better, with a team of over 150 experts across energy, technology, marketing and operations. We’re committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and a culture of people who love building a better world.

Amber for Batteries unlocks more value for homeowners with batteries, driving down energy bills and payback periods by storing energy when it’s cheap and exporting it to the grid for wholesale feed-in rates of up to $19/kWh. Amber for EVs is our EV smart charging solution that helps EV owners save on charging costs by using more cheap, renewable energy. We will start developing vehicle-to-grid technology in 2025.

About the Role

At Amber we believe that enabling a culture where everyone is set up to do their best work is essential for long-term success. We’re looking for a Strategy & Operations Associate to join our growing S&O team.

You’ll play a key role in solving complex operational challenges, driving strategic initiatives and scaling the systems and processes that improve our customer’s end-to-end experience. You’ll partner cross-functionally across Operations, Product and Technology to identify inefficiencies, design smarter processes and implement solutions with measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support high-impact strategic and operational projects that improve efficiency, scalability and the customer experience.
- Identify and execute opportunities for automation and continuous improvement across customer and internal workflows.
- Partner with Product and Tech teams to enhance internal tooling, data systems and operational visibility.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses using SQL and other data tools to diagnose issues, uncover insights and drive recommendations.
- Build and maintain lightweight dashboards, metrics and reporting frameworks to track KPIs across the business.
- Work with external vendors and technology partners to evaluate and implement process automation solutions.
- Contribute to building repeatable frameworks, documentation and playbooks that improve how Amber operates and makes decisions.

Key Requirements

- Self-starters who are eager to learn and comfortable in a changing environment.
- 3+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy, operations or data-driven roles in a high-growth environment.
- Proficiency in SQL to independently query data and structure analyses.
- Strong analytical capability with Excel/Sheets, data visualization and business case modeling.
- Structured thinker who can translate complex problems into clear frameworks and action plans.
- Excellent communicator who can influence cross-functional partners and present insights clearly.
- Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.
- Bonus: familiarity with automation tools or AI-based systems.

Benefits

- Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of renewable energy in AU and globally
- Flexible working hours with regular work-from-home arrangements
- Competitive salary and equity
- Annual Learning & Development budget to support personal growth
- Exciting office location in the CBD
- Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies
- An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support

Salary

- $95,000 - $120,000 a year
- Salary is quoted excluding superannuation. All roles include employee stock options over and above base salary and superannuation.

This is a full-time role based ideally from Melbourne, but we are also open to considering the right candidate anywhere within Australia. We have an office in the Melbourne CBD and work flexibly between the office and home. For those based in Sydney, co-working space catch-ups are available occasionally; other locations work from home. We expect to remain Melbourne-based but maintain flexibility between office and WFH.

🌈 If this kind of work excites you, we’d love to hear from you

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage diversity, equality of opportunity, and an inclusive work environment. We are committed to equal opportunity regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

Hiring Process

Our hiring process will include:

- A screening interview with our talent team
- A live case study interview with the Senior Strategy & Operations Manager
- A chat with 2x Strategy & Operations team members
- A final chat with our Director of Operations

We promise to respect your time as an applicant while being thorough in finding the right fit for our team.

Applicants must be based in Australia with full working rights, preferably Melbourne.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

No recruitment agencies, please. We’ve got this. Thank you.

🚀 Even if you don’t tick every box, passion and curiosity go a long way here. Don’t self-reject — apply
