As part of a larger, stable group in the Australian building and construction products sector, this role offers the excitement of a developing business with the security of an established organisation
Role Description:
This is an opportunity for a commercially minded Finance Manager (or someone with leadership experience looking to step up) to join a growing construction materials retail business in Western Sydney. You will be key in establishing and managing the financial framework of their expanding retail operations. This role offers more than standard accounting; a proactive leader with strong analytical skills to drive performance, especially in retail margin management, retail headcount optimisation, and retail logistics cost control will excel in this role. You will provide crucial financial analysis to leadership and be comfortable in a dynamic retail/trading environment. Additionally, you will be a key driver in the upcoming system implementation.
Based in Western Sydney, this role offers up to $140k + super for candidates with relevant experience, along with WFH flexibility and significant professional growth opportunities especially as the business expands.
Responsibilities:

- Spearhead and manage the upcoming system implementation (Business Central).
- Oversee and execute the month-end closing process, adhering to all group reporting deadlines and requirements.
- Work closely with department heads to develop comprehensive budget and forecast workings that align with business objectives.
- Oversee the processing of AP and AR invoices and the preparation of short-term cash flow forecasts.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packages, conducting thorough variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis and formulate clear, actionable strategic recommendations for leadership (e.g., retail margins, supplier rebates, logistics expenses, retail headcount efficiency).
- Perform Balance Sheet reviews, ensuring the reconciliation of all accounts and proactively addressing any discrepancies.
- Directly manage, mentor, and develop a finance team of 3.
- Oversee daily transactional accounting for retail operations, including Point of Sale (POS) system reconciliation and accurate inventory costing methodologies specific to construction materials retail.
- Implement and monitor robust internal financial controls specific to the retail environment, and manage cash handling procedures across all retail locations to safeguard assets.
Skills and Experience:
- Advanced Excel for sophisticated data analysis and manipulation.
- Team leadership experience
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent time management and a keen eye for detail.
- Prior experience within a retail and/or distribution business is highly regarded
- Experience with analytical tools such as PowerBI is highly regarded.
- CPA/CA qualification is highly regarded.
- Prior experience with ERP system implementation, particularly Business Central, would be a significant advantage.
If you are a driven and experienced finance professional who believes you meet the criteria outlined above, we encourage you to apply now for this exciting opportunity in Western Sydney.
At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
