About The South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA):

We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities—a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. As a small rural hospital, we cherish the relationship we have with our community and pledge uncompromising standards to those we serve.

Position Overview:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for the assessment, treatment, education and management of referred patients who experience developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders. This will include patients referred through the SmallTALK preschool speech/language program in Huron-Perth. The successful applicant will also act in a consulting capacity for our hospital inpatient population by providing swallowing assessments and swallowing therapy.

Job Duties:

- Identifies developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders in children
- Provides education to patients, families of patients, and team members
- Managing a caseload, taking account of priority cases, waiting lists, successful outcomes, referral and discharge or service users
- Working with others to improve the effectiveness of service delivery
- Collaborating and communicating with the health care ream regarding assessment findings and possible barriers to success, treatment and future planning
- Conducting swallowing assessments for inpatients, providing recommendations for plan of care

Qualifications and Experience:

- Master's Level Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Previous experience working with children required. Preference given to individuals possessing a minimum of 1-year clinical experience in the identification and treatment of speech and language delays and disorders
- Experience in provision of Early Language Parent Training (e.g.: Hanen programs) and family education regarding management of/ family interaction with children with communication disorders
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Ability to be flexible with work assignments and take initiative as appropriate. Appreciative of resource utilization constraints
- Demonstrated understanding of computer software including MS Office, One Chart, and meeting platforms such as OTN and MS Teams
- Proof of professional/ general liability insurance
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout the region
- Current Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen and immunization status required upon hire
