General Medicine Physician

Overview

Western Health is seeking an enthusiastic general physician to join a growing and dynamic General Medicine Unit. You will work with a strong team providing high-quality care to complex patients, making a significant impact on the health and well-being of our diverse and growing community, and delivering high-quality training to the next generation of physicians. The General Medicine Unit is one of the largest and busiest inpatient units at Western Health, comprising 11.9 FTE of SMS, 18 Advanced Trainees, and about 60 basic physician trainees and interns rotating through the unit. Staff work within 10 inpatient teams across Sunshine and Footscray sites and in outpatient clinics at both sites.

You will join the ward and consult service roster at either Footscray or Sunshine Hospitals, participate in an on-call roster and weekend ward rounds, with opportunities to participate in perioperative ward rounds and General Medicine and Perioperative Clinics. General Medicine sits within the Division of Aged, General Medicine and Subacute Services, which delivers care across acute and subacute inpatient units and related services across Western Health locations.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the General Medicine ward and consult service rosters at Footscray or Sunshine Hospitals. Participate in on-call duties and weekend ward rounds. Opportunity to participate in perioperative ward rounds and General Medicine and Perioperative Clinics. Work within the Division of Aged, General Medicine and Subacute Services to support acute and subacute care pathways.

About you

- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a specialist medical practitioner
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
- Approved for adult general medicine scope of practice at Western Health
- Relevant clinical experience and clinical competence required for practice as a consultant physician in General and Acute Care Medicine
- Experience in the support and supervision of Junior Medical Staff
