To perform, analyse and interpret echocardiography studies in a team environment, with a requirement to perform transthoracic echocardiograms, assist with transoesophageal echocardiograms and ultrasound guided perocardiocentesis on inpatients and outpatients of ISLHD. The Cardiac Sonographer provides an interim impressions report by the nature of ultrasound examinations, cardiac sonographers are accorded a high level of autonomy and responsibility in obtaining accurate diagnostic information from the ultrasound examination. As such the sonographer must have detailed knowledge in cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology combined with a three dimensional conceptual understanding of sonographic anatomical appearances, normal variations and pathological processes.

Wollongong Hospital , located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
