Hatch is seeking a Design Manager for HVDC Converter Stations to join our growing Energy practice in Australia. Our Energy team brings together experts across renewables, eGrid, nuclear, oil & gas, and related fields to inspire positive change worldwide.
The Energy team at Hatch is well-established and has experienced organic growth globally over the past years. We are expanding further across Australia and the surrounding regions. This role will be pivotal in our regional Energy business and will join a strong global leadership team, a key pillar of Hatch's services.
Reporting to the Regional Director of eGRID, based in Melbourne, this role will contribute to the group's growth, coordinating with colleagues globally. The Design Manager will lead design efforts for converter stations, oversee business development, team leadership, research, client engagement, technical deliverables, and project financials.

Responsibilities:
1. Manage design scope to align with project objectives
2. Coordinate with discipline lead engineers and sub-consultants for on-scope, on-time, and on-budget delivery
3. Contribute to design reports and progress updates
4. Manage engineering change processes with discipline leads
5. Coordinate design work among disciplines, stakeholders, and sub-consultants
6. Ensure quality and compliance of discipline-specific designs
7. Promote Safety in Design initiatives
8. Facilitate Value Optimization processes
9. Oversee general design deliverables (e.g., reports, SID registers)
10. Support resource management in coordination with regional and global teams
Qualifications:
- Experience with High Voltage Substations / Transmission
- Knowledge of Victorian/Tasmanian transmission markets preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Ability to collaborate on innovative projects
