Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Trainee to join the Medical Oncology team.
What you will be doing:
This position is suitable for medical officers who are interested in training in medical oncology. The Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee will be in an accredited Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program within the Medical Oncology Department in a network of hospitals (Chris O`Brien Lifehouse, Concord hospital, Dubbo Base hospital). The Advanced Trainee will be assigned to the Medical Oncology Department for the specified term, and will undertake specific tasks and responsibilities at that Hospital. Accommodation and air travel will be provided when assigned to Dubbo Base hospital. The main role is to provide clinical care to medical oncology outpatients under the supervision of Attending Medical Officers (AMOs). The Advanced Trainee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise junior medical officers (JMOs) and medical students. It is also expected that the Advanced Trainee participates in the clinical meetings and teaching and be subject to training and performance reviews.
You will attend and participate in outpatient clinics and training courses. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and other clinical meetings, as well as be involved in departmental quality assurance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of outpatients with common malignant diseases, and discussion of their case at multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Management of outpatients with rare malignancies, including development and adherence with assessment and management plans, ongoing reviews at MDTs, and appropriate communication between specialists at different geographical sites.
- Development and participation in outreach clinics during the rotation to Dubbo Base Hospital.
- Triage and development of appropriate management plans for newly presenting patients, in collaboration with the nurse coordinator, local GPs, counsellor, and supervising oncologist.
- Training to junior medical officers and medical students.
- Conduct of a research project.
- Participation in educational activities conducted by the Sydney LHD medical oncology network.
- Participation in on-call roster.
Where you will be working:
The Sydney Local Health District employs Trainees (both unaccredited and College accredited trainees) to work in the Department of Medical Oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The department is located within and managed by Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, a private not-for-profit institution co-located with RPA. You will also work at Concord hospital and Dubbo Base Hospital.

Requirements:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Advanced organisational skills, good time management skills and capacity for self-directed learning.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication to varied audiences.
- Advanced ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
