Salary: $100,783 - $105,349 plus superannuation and salary packaging

About the role

The Aboriginal Family-Centred Youth Justice Program (AFCYJP) at VACCA is an early intervention program with a trauma-informed and family-centred approach, aimed at reducing the risk of contact with the youth justice system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.

The Specialist Family Practitioner will work alongside Aboriginal young people (aged 10-14 years) and their families, providing intensive case management and individualised therapeutic support. This involves providing individual outreach support to families in their homes, in the community and over the phone. The Practitioner collaborates with the parent/carer, family unit, and other services involved, respecting kinship structures and recognizing that every family looks different.

The role will offer group diversion and culture-based activities, education workshops and family-centred support to address presenting challenges prior to escalation.

About You

- Commitment to the values that underpin VACCA’s vision and purpose
- Diploma or Degree qualification in Community Services/Social Work/Psychology
- 3-5 years case management experience in the child welfare field
- Appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, with a commitment to continually build knowledge of such, and an awareness of key issues impacting Aboriginal communities
- Demonstrated case management experience in a relevant sector (community services, justice, education)
- Aptitude to authentically engage and listen deeply with Aboriginal families and children, providing clear, culturally appropriate, respectful and consistent communication
- Expertise in child development, attachment and trauma, with the ability to apply this knowledge
- Experience identifying, assessing and responding to risk using applicable frameworks in various contexts
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, Working with Children Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain), Victorian Driver Licence, current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
