(Apply Now) Early Childhood Support Practitioner
3 weeks ago
In accordance with NDIA expectations, ORS is expanding our Early Childhood Support (ECS) service at all of our sites for NDIS participants aged 0-8. ECS will provide therapy & support under the Key Worker model where there is one lead practitioner that supports the child and family through applying a range of strategies across all areas of development. You will liaise with and co-ordinate therapy from multiple disciplines as needed throughout the process.
As an Early Childhood Support Practitioner your duties will include:
- Working with families and children to develop and prioritise their goals using a routines-based approach
- Providing support to families that reflects a strengths-based and family-centred approach with a focus on improving the child and family quality of life
- Providing evidence-based support to address children’s goals across all areas of development e.g. communication, play, mobility, feeding, self-care activities, sensory processing, relationships with peers, feelings and behaviours, problem-solving and learning
- Working to develop the capacity of the adults supporting the child
- Coordinating support required from other disciplines. This could look like a quick question for another therapist, a joint visit with a consulting therapist, a therapy block with another therapist to address that specialist area or a referral to another division for ongoing support.
- Supporting the inclusion and participation of children within their families and communities
- Providing consultative support to other Key Workers specific to your discipline/ background
You will also get the opportunity to supplement this role with a clinical position of Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner. As a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner your day to day duties will involve working with allied health practitioners, support workers and family members to achieve the best possible outcomes for your clients. You will assess and observe participants challenging behaviours and work towards increasing skills, improving emotion regulation and introducing replacement behaviours to reduce the use of restrictive practices.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans and assessments focus on increasing a person’s quality of life including improving their skills and enhancing their independence. You will develop a plan and implement with training and regular follow up and review.
You will receive extensive training & support from Team Leaders & Managers on site to effectively perform in this dual role.
