The Emergency Department at Concord Hospital is seeking highly motivated Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMO) to join our team to launch a career in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care.

The Hospital

Concord Repatriation General Hospital is proud of its healthcare service excellence and leadership in clinical care. Concord is part of a network of hospitals and healthcare services within Sydney Local Health District and offers a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services. The hospital has extensive services in geriatrics and recently expanded haematology and oncology services. With the increased ageing population, skills in these areas will be essential for emergency physicians in the future.

Concord Hospital is committed to ensuring the community has equitable access to high quality patient-centred care that is timely, evidence-based, culturally appropriate and efficient. The hospital provides this care in partnership with highly skilled and committed staff.

The Department of Emergency Medicine

The Emergency department has 32 beds spread across acute, sub-acute, fast track and short stay areas. Redevelopment is in progress to install an ED CT scanner and redevelop fast track, and will complement recent upgrades to the resuscitation bays.

Our Department is a receiving centre for major burns, is a primary PTCA centre for STEMI and has an acute stroke service. Our patient population is a cohort with complex medical conditions and high acuity presentations. ACEM has recognised the site as a major referral hospital and we’re accredited for 18 months of advanced training. Our weekly education program has been redesigned to provide paid teaching time for delivery of core content education for all trainees and includes SRMO participation.

We offer rotations to develop a range of skills. Our SRMOs have access to Concord ICU and cardiology terms and a Canterbury Hospital Paediatric Emergency rotation to develop core skills. For those exploring options other than ACEM training we also offer opportunity to enrol in the ACEM certificate or diploma program and there is support to provide requirements for general registration and GP training.

We work as a team and you will be well supported with consultant cover from 8am to midnight and on-call overnight. The rest of the ED team includes a supportive nursing team and allied health professionals. An SRMO representative attends senior medical staff meetings and our mentoring program provides additional opportunity to support professional development.

The Position

This position is open to qualified candidates who have experience and interest in Emergency Medicine. You will be involved in the clinical care and management of patients requiring emergency medical care. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a complex clinical environment with the expertise and support of our team. Our commitment is to support your development towards autonomous practice in your chosen career pathway.

What we can offer you

• A supportive, collegiate, and diverse work environment
• Protected education time to support professional and career development
• Convenient location near transport facilities with onsite parking available.
