The Exhibition Carpenter (Team Leader) is responsible for the construction, installation, and dismantling of AEH’s custom exhibition stands and temporary event structures. Using advanced carpentry skills, the role ensures that timber frameworks, flooring, partitions, and decorative features are built accurately, safely, and to specification. Working closely with the Custom Displays Manager and project stakeholders, the Carpenter interprets build drawings, prepares and assembles materials, and delivers high-quality finishes that reflect AEH’s standards of workmanship and presentation. In addition to hands-on carpentry, the Exhibition Carpenter (Team Leader) provides onsite leadership by guiding crews, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring correct use of tools, equipment, and materials. The role is also responsible for safe dismantling, storage, and preparation of components for re-use, supporting both custom projects and broader exhibition builds.

This position is critical to AEH’s operations, as skilled carpentry underpins the safe and effective delivery of custom builds across diverse venues. By combining trade expertise with team leadership, the role contributes to workflow efficiency, compliance with OH&S requirements, and the overall success of AEH’s event delivery.

– Salary: AU$ 90,000.00 to AU$ 100,000.00 + superannuation

Responsibilities

- Interpreting construction drawings, CAD layouts, and project specifications to determine construction methods, materials, and measurements for temporary exhibition builds and event structures.
- Measuring, cutting, shaping, and assembling timber, MDF, plywood, and other structural materials for walls, partitions, sub-flooring, overhead frames, stages, ramps, and display structures.
- Installing timber frameworks, cladding, fascia panels, bulkheads, and structural supports in compliance with safety and building codes.
- Integrating supplementary materials such as glass, acrylic, aluminium, and fabric into timber frameworks, ensuring stability and finish.
- Conducting on-site adjustments, repairs, and fit-offs during construction and installation to meet project requirements.
- Supervising the assembly and dismantling of temporary timber structures, ensuring safe handling, transport, and storage of materials for reuse.
- Operating hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment in accordance with workplace safety procedures and OH&S standards.
- Collaborating with designers, signage teams, and other trades to ensure accurate construction outcomes and timely delivery.
- Leading and coordinating crew members during installation and dismantling phases, maintaining quality control, safety compliance, and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

- Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent trade qualification
- At least 3 years of proven experience in carpentry, cabinet making, shopfitting, or custom joinery
- Prior experience in retail or exhibition fit-outs, custom joinery, or similar project-based environments (essential due to the specialised nature of the industry).
- Demonstrated experience supervising teams in a fast-paced or event-based environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
- Strong knowledge of safe work practices and OH&S regulations.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.

Preferred Skills

- Experience in exhibition builds, retail fit-outs, or custom display construction.
- Forklift licence, EWP, or White Card (desirable).
- Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
