City of Hobart, Australia Procreate Ltd Full time

At Procreate we're dedicated to making exceptional creative tools by combining beautiful user experiences with high performance engineering. Used by millions around the globe, Procreate is committed to placing more power in the hands of creatives.

We’re looking for an experienced Frontend Engineer to join our DevOps and Internal Tools team to work across dynamic and varied internal and external projects. You'll have deep technical skills, with a strong emphasis on React JS and Tailwind, and a proven ability to apply these across a range of domains.

Our DevOps and Internal Tools team is a highly collaborative and cross-functional team that operates in a rapidly evolving product environment. Your diverse experiences and approach to engineering will mean that you are equally comfortable working with designers to bring ideas and concepts to life or with your fellow engineers in creating efficient and elegant frontend solutions.

The role

This is a role that suits someone with a specialist skill set in frontend engineering and a flexible mentality that enjoys both the architectural and design challenges of building exceptional user experiences. You'll bring with you a keen eye and interest for design and aesthetics as well as solid development experience in modern frontend languages and frameworks, especially React JS and Tailwind.

You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining user-facing online software, ensuring your work is secure, well‑structured, documented, and follows Procreate’s internal policies. You’ll also contribute to the software development lifecycle by working collaboratively with designers to consider UI/UX design, performance, and accessibility best practices.

There will be opportunities to work with established and stable technologies as well as room to explore more contemporary and emerging platforms. A passion for creating intuitive, responsive, and visually appealing interfaces will allow you to thrive in this role.

This role sits within the DevOps and Internal Tools team. You'll report to the DevOps and Internal Tools Manager and maintain close working relationships with other members of the team and leads across the business to ensure that you're working together in the most efficient way possible.

What you'll do

Build highly visible user-facing platforms. Work on platforms with global exposure and reach, developing interfaces that are front and centre in the communication of our product and allow our user base to interact with us and each other in new and engaging ways.

Develop robust and high-quality server side software. Build and maintain internal infrastructure that empowers all Procreate teams and allows us to operate at our best.

Dive deep in React JS and Tailwind frameworks. Use your expertise in React JS and Tailwind to deliver robust, high-quality software that meets the requirements of each brief.

Collaborate closely with designers. Work hand‑in‑hand with our design team to translate concepts into functional, visually stunning interfaces that align with Procreate’s brand and user expectations.

Optimise performance, accessibility, and security. Refine UI performance, ensure accessibility standards, and deliver seamless, secure experiences for all users - internally and externally.

Manage codebases. Use Git for version control, keep dependencies up to date, and ensure codebases are organised and actively maintained.

Document and test. Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and use both automated and manual testing to ensure software stability and quality.

Exercise your creativity and vision. Utilise your technical skills and past experiences in creative and adaptive ways, seeking out productive and iterative back and forth with our designers and engineers.

Skills

- Familiarity with the Vue JS framework

- 3 years expertise in React JS and Tailwind

- Proficient in Typescript, HTML, CSS, and other contemporary web technologies

- Comfortable using version control tools to manage projects and collaborate

- Some experience in working with REST APIs

- Commercial experience using continuous integration and deployment

- Demonstrable ability to engage, share knowledge, and collaborate

- High level of independence, self‑motivation, and creative problem‑solving

- Methodical approach to tasks, able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.

What to expect in the first 6-12 months

- Complete onboarding and become familiar with your colleagues, workplace culture, and tech stack.

- Maintain and ensure that our platforms continue to run smoothly and resolve any bugs that arise.

- Improve and rework existing projects and contribute to future roadmap discussions.

- Regularly contribute by bringing design to life on a range of projects, releases, partnerships, and updates.

- Work alongside Web Designers, Backend Engineers, and the DevOps and Internal Tools Manager to develop next‑generation iterations of our platforms.

We want to hear from you

Our recruitment process is made to provide you with opportunities for you to show us what you're capable of, instead of assessing you solely on your CV. We’d love to hear about how you see yourself contributing to Procreate in this role.

Please note, we do not operate remote or hybrid models. We're looking for full‑time and on‑site employees for our Hobart office.
