Role Purpose

This Leading Teacher role strengthens teacher capacity to embed digital literacy, emerging technologies, and data-informed practice across the curriculum, while ensuring staff and students are equipped with the skills required for future learning and employment.

Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range.The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the integration of digital literacy and data skills into the curriculum across all year levels, in alignment with Victorian Curriculum 2.0 digital literacy guidelines.
- Ensure that digital literacy is embedded across subjects and prepares students with skills for future learning and employment.
- Develop and deliver professional learning programs that enhance staff capability in digital literacy, AI integration, and data literacy.
- Lead the implementation and optimisation of Toddle LMS for curriculum planning, assessment, feedback, reporting, and student portfolios ensuring that all staff are confident in its use.
- Partner with curriculum and wellbeing leaders to ensure inclusive education and digital citizenship essential to planning, teaching and assessment.
- Collaborate with curriculum leaders, year-level teams, and leadership to embed digital literacy intokey school programs, ensuring coherence and consistency.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers in embedding digital tools ¿ including Toddle, AI, and data platforms ¿ into everyday pedagogy. To Ensure that all students develop foundational digital literacy skills, including:

- digital citizenship

- computational thinking

- information management

- using technology to support learning and creativity.

- Support staff in collecting, analysing, and utilising data to inform teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes.
- Champion the use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual learning environments, and data analytics tools.
- Work with leadership and curriculum teams to identify and introduce new digital resources aligned to school improvement priorities.
- Create and maintain a repository of digital literacy resources (guides, lesson plans, digital tools) aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
- Contribute to the development of the school¿s overall digital literacy strategy, ensuring it is future-focused and prepares students for opportunities in a digital world.
- Provide specialist recommendations as a part of the DIP process through observations.
- Other duties as directed by the Principal, including those in response to emerging needs and priorities in the school.

- Staff confidence and capacity in data literacy, digital tools, and AI integration strengthened through coaching and professional learning.
- Toddle LMS fully implemented as the central platform for planning, assessment, and student portfolios.
- Students equipped with digital citizenship, computational thinking, and creative technology skills for lifelong learning.
- Innovation embedded as part of the school¿s learning culture, with emerging technologies harnessed to improve outcomes.

Responsibilities of all Leading Teachers:

- Exemplify the vision, values, and direction of the school with high expectations to inspire students and staff by always demonstrating a passion for learning and wellbeing,
- Demonstrate exemplary ethical behaviour and exercise informed judgements in all professional dealings with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Lead the implementation of whole-school improvement, including the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) and DE High Impact Teaching Strategies, SWPBS, Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), and DE High Impact Wellbeing Strategies (HIWS).
- Support and lead teams to collaboratively facilitate team-based professional learning that involves engaging with research, evidence and data, intentionally practising strategies in classrooms and reflecting on impact.
- Exhibit at all times exemplary classroom practices, mentoring and/or coaching teachers, and providing focused feedback to teachers.
- Lead in the implementation of AIP goals in collaboration with their relevant AP and other College Executive team members.

Responsibilities

In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers may include but are not limited to:

- Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and school priorities
- Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery;
- Leading and managing the provision of professional development and developing individual and team development plans for teaching staff within the priorities of the school;
- Leading and managing staff performance and development (review of staff);
- Teaching demonstration lessons;
- Leading and managing the development of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices;
- Leading and managing the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline;
- Leading the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participating in curriculum development in other areas;
- Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers;
- Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school;
- Contributing to the development of proposals for school council consideration;
- Developing and managing the school code of conduct.

Who May Apply

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Qualification Requirements

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
