Overview

Graduate Surveyor — Maitland City Council's Pathways program offers a two-year, full-time opportunity starting January 2026 to gain hands-on experience in local government across a broad range of surveying functions. The role supports surveying services for the capital works program, property development and planning teams to assist with infrastructure projects, land management, and spatial data collection. You will be mentored and supported to become a candidate surveyor, gaining practical experience toward professional registration and developing technical skills with both field and office work.

About you

- Completion of bachelor's degree in surveying, spatial science, or related discipline that is a recognised qualification from the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) within the previous two (2) years or by January 2026.
- Contemporary industry knowledge of surveying principles, practices and relevant legislation.
- Experience and understanding of interpreting and calculating technical drawings, maps and spatial data.
- Current Class C drivers licence.

Benefits

This is a full-time, temporary role working a 35-hour week, with a salary commencing from $70,728.84 per year + 12% super. Graduates will also have access to Council's staff benefits such as flexible working arrangements and a fitness passport. Council will contribute to BOSSI's annual candidate fee for the successful applicant. Maitland City Council holds memberships with the Consulting Surveyors Australia and the Institute of Surveyors NSW, with opportunities to attend candidate workshops and industry information sessions to support the pathway to registration as a registered land surveyor.
