Overview of Program
The Family Safety Program is a client-centred, trauma informed service designed to provide counselling and support to families experiencing relationship difficulties. The team provides specialist family violence services to men, women, adolescents and children who have, or are currently experiencing family violence.
Position Objective
The Registered Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist will offer online and face-to-face therapeutic services to clients. To promote accessibility, it is a requirement to be registered (or have capability to register prior to commencement) with the Better Access Scheme.
The Heartlinks program seeks to offer counselling services to families and children within the community who may not otherwise be able to access support due to systems issues, accessibility or financial constraints. As such we work to offer low cost or grant funded opportunities to ease access to support. The clients that we see in the program come with a wide range of complexities and referral sources. The team has access to additional resourcing and support from Family Life's broader services team to support with linkage and referral to supports outside of structured sessions.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provision of evidence-based psychological therapeutic interventions to children, young people and adults.
- Experience in offering counselling support to children, young people or adults with varied complexity and presentation. A high proportion of the clients referred have a history of complex trauma and require support from dynamic clinicians who can adapt their style to meet them where they are at.
- Counselling services are offered from our offices in Sandringham and Frankston, some travel may be required between the offices (minimised as much as possible).
- Participation in clinical decisions about treatment planning, assessment and risk management.
- Maintain up to date and comprehensive records in accordance with Family Life policy.
- Work closely with the Team Leader and team to identify opportunities to improve the program and promote positive outcomes for clients.
- Additional duties as directed by line management.
- Qualified to administer cognitive, ASD and ADHD assessments and formulate reports, in particular with children and young people.
Key Selection Criteria
1. Degree in Psychology from an accredited tertiary institution.
2. Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and registration (or registration eligibility) with Medicare.
3. Demonstrated ability and experience in the provision of intake, assessment and counselling with children, young people and adults.
4. Experience completing and documenting clinical counselling sessions.
5. Sound ability to work autonomously and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
6. Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations people, cultural and linguistically diverse people, and LGBTQIA+ people.
7. High level of written and verbal communication skills, including rapport building, case noting and report writing.
8. Information technology skills and ability to use electronic filing and practice management software.
