About the Role
As an Engineering Manager in our Technology Team, you'll lead a team of 5–6 engineers building and operating the software behind our Direct-to-Consumer brands, RentalCover.com and TravelCover.com. Your team owns the technical foundation of our D2C digital experience, with a clear mandate to accelerate user acquisition, conversion, retention and revenue growth. You'll sit at the intersection of technology, product, data and marketing raising engineering standards, building scalable services and integrations, and developing a team that consistently delivers for customers. This is a hands-on role: alongside managing delivery and cultivating a culture of high ownership, you'll contribute code across our PHP/Laravel and TypeScript/React stack. You'll bring strong technical depth, experience designing and operating production systems, and a track record of mentoring engineers and building teams that perform. Close, regular collaboration with Product, Engineering and Marketing stakeholders will be central to hitting roadmap and growth outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own technical execution and delivery for all applications across the direct-to-consumer domain (RentalCover.com and TravelCover.com), ensuring they meet business, performance and security requirements.
- Deliver the technical capability behind our growth agenda
- user acquisition, conversion, retention and revenue expansion working from the roadmap through to measurable outcomes.
- Drive technical excellence through engineering best practices, quality standards and sound architectural principles, backed by metrics that improve efficiency, code quality and system reliability.
- Build a team culture of innovation, continuous learning and collaborative problem solving.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Infrastructure, and Data & AI teams across timezones to deliver on our vision of building the world's best technology and insights platform for embedded insurance.

- that lift team productivity, quality and velocity while creating competitive advantage. Skills & Experience What you will bring:
- Bachelor/Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering with at least 7 years of software engineering experience and at least 3 years in engineering leadership roles.
- Strong backend and frontend expertise ideally in PHP/Laravel, React, TypeScript with building and operating APIs and services with high quality bars (testing, CI/CD, security, performance).
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software architecture design, API development and implementing monitoring and observability solutions for complex distributed systems.
- Hands-on expertise across the growth engineering stack: technical SEO, ad tracking and analytics integrations (Google Ads, GA etc), and site performance optimisation.
- Fluent with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or similar)
- you've integrated them into real workflows, not just experimented.
- Working understanding of LLMs beyond code generation: prompt engineering, context management, and knowing when AI adds value vs. traditional code.
- Experience with modern software development practices including AI tooling, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, code quality tools. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), managing workloads in Kubernetes is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of developing and scaling customer-facing web applications is highly valuable, particularly within the fast-paced insurance technology or fintech domains. What you will have:
