The City of Stonnington is seeking an experienced and passionate Financial Accounting Coordinator to join the Finance team. Within this leadership role you will lead a team of three experienced professionals and work within the broader finance team based at our Malvern Offices with the opportunity to also work from home. You will be the first point of contact for external auditors and also manage and oversee the month end process and lead the year end close.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide leadership and direction to the Financial Accounting and Accounts Receivable Team in the provision of high quality financial and statutory reporting, setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and fostering a collaborative culture that delivers accurate and timely financial and statutory reports.

- Mentor and develop the Financial Accounting team to deliver effective financial accounting services across the organisation.

- Coordinate the external audit process by ensuring all required documentation is prepared to a high standard, and audit queries are resolved promptly. Maintain strong, transparent relationships with auditors and internal stakeholders.

- Manage and oversee month-end process, ensuring all supporting balance sheet reconciliations, accruals and adjustments are accurate, fully reviewed and finalized in line with month-end checklist and reporting timeframes.

- Oversee the preparation, completion and timely submission of audits and grants acquittals, for example, Roads To Recovery audit, Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) audit, and Victorian Grants Commission acquittal as required.

- Partner with and support service managers through the provision of quality financial services advice support and analysis.

- Ensure the integrity of all financial data through robust internal controls as well as the timely review of processes, to enable high quality financial and statutory reporting.

- Provide financial and policy analysis and advice in the preparation of briefing papers and presentation materials relating to Council’s performance reporting and resource management, including Annual Budget development.

- Identify, develop, review, interpret and maintain robust finance policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and contribute to the Finance departments strategic business planning.

Join us in this full-time temporary role asap until 18 December 2026, offering a competitive salary range of $128,308 - $142,841, plus 12% superannuation.

Desired Skills and Experience

- Demonstrated experience leading a motivated customer-focused team of financial professionals to deliver high quality outputs to demanding timelines and drive continuous improvement.

- Significant experience in leading a financial accounting function with oversight of financial governance and technical application of accounting standards, and statutory and legislative requirements.

- Effective at relationship-building with ability to successfully consult, influence and negotiate at all levels.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain complex and strategic financial concepts and advice.

- Strong customer service ethic, with proven ability to respond diplomatically to complaints, enquiries, and conflict.

- Demonstrated leadership in fostering a cohesive, high-performing and resilient team culture.

- CPA / CA qualified with demonstrated experience in a similar financial accounting coordination role in a large organisation.

- Well-developed business and financial analysis skills, including the ability to correctly interpret, analyse and synthesise information with a high level of attention to detail and translate into succinct and meaningful intelligence.
